This story had all of the things I typically love in historical fiction, but I just couldn't get into it like I had hoped. A grandson sets off to find out the truth about his grandfather, and in doing so he uncovers a wealth of information about his family and where he comes from.

Librarybelle I like the cover! 5y

This is a story that needs told over and over. I've read other tales on the Armenian genocide. This one show a different perspective, a grandson discovering his "Dede's" past and in doing so finds himself. I definitely recommend this book

Big #womenshistoryreads interview today: number FIFTY! Celebrating with Aline Ohanesian, author of ORHAN'S INHERITANCE. Love her thoughts on the problem with recorded history, how fiction can "restore that which has been lost," & a woman of color who disrupts the narrative & deserves more prominence. Orhan‘s grandfather dies, leaving the family home in Turkey to an unknown woman living in California. This begins Orhan‘s trip to discover what happened to his family almost a hundred years ago during WWI and the Turks attempt to eradicate the Armenian population, something I had never heard of before reading this book. Although harrowing at times, this is a story that should be told. A story of family, war, love, heartbreak and forgiveness.

Finished my first book for #24in48 at about 9.5 hours and I really liked it. While I was certainly aware of the Armenian genocide, this is the first book I‘ve read with the atrocity as a the central narrative. Loved the characters, loved the story. While the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and coping with the past were sometimes delivered heavy-handedly, I thought it was beautifully written. 4/5 stars

“They found him inside one of seventeen cauldrons in the courtyard, steeping in an indigo dye two shades darker than the summer sky.”

Sounds like the beginning of a mystery, but the man in question in a 93-year-old Turkish rug maker. This is mostly historical fiction.

I wanted so badly to start #24in48 at exactly 9 pm PST/12 am EST, but I find myself here. I‘ve been socializing for the last 5 hours and am just now putting on this #audiobook so I don‘t feel totally behind in the morning. Sometime in you just have to extrovert, even if it‘s a struggle. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Finished! I liked this book. Includes some twists and turns about a family during the time of the Armenian genocide in Turkey. Viewpoints from both sides of the conflict. Well written and thought provoking about a little known, but very tragic happening of WWI.

I don't know how I feel about this book. It was some tired tropes about memory and loss wrapped inside of a newer package of the Armenian genocide. I don't quite understand the purpose of the ambiguous ending. There were bright spots in the writing. Puck doesn't know how to feel either.

We have truly delightful friends who gifted us an Adagio tea subscription - a perfect reading companion! (They don't pay me to say it :)). Using this snowy day to finish up a book that's been sitting on my Kindle for a while!

This is a very nice debut novel that I read last year. The subject matter is difficult to read in some parts, but the author does a good job of handling the Armenian genocide. This is an important subject. #setineasterneurope #photoadaynov16

Quick read, great debut novel. The writing is beautiful, amazing at times. The ending seemed hurried, but otherwise I would recommend it.

"Bedros was right. The Armenians bore their loss alone. They tucked it away, like something precious, in every syllable of language they taught in Saturday schools, and in the smell of dishes, and in the lament of songs. In the breath of children."

I can't put this one down...
