#poetrymatters Aug 19: never

I never hear that one is dead (1325) by Emily Dickinson

Emily Elizabeth Dickinson, born in Amherst, MA, on December 10, 1830. After her death in 1886, her family found her hand-sewn books, or “fascicles,” which contained nearly 1,800 poems. But a complete volume did not appear until 1955. And it was not until 1998 that her order, unusual punctuation, & spelling choices were completely restored.

If you love Emily Dickinson, you NEED a copy of this book. This book is the definitive text for her poems. It is the only version available that is true to her spelling, punctuation and capitalization. If you already have a copy of her complete poems, check to see if you‘ve got the version edited by Thomas Johnson. If so, you need to pick up a copy of this version. TJ heavily edited her poems and didn‘t respect her style. Franklin does neither.

slategreyskies This volume contains 1789 poems. Also, RW Franklin is (as mentioned on the back of the book) the foremost scholar of Dickinson‘s manuscripts. Pick up a copy of this book! I promise you‘ll love it as much as I do!! ❤️!! 5y

I've been out of grad school for over six months and am beyond thrilled to have a pile of reading in front of me 📚😍 looking forward to this Dickinson workshop in July!

Jess_Read_This How neat! My GR bookclub has a poetry talk section and I just posted her Nobody poem that we are discussing. I bet that workshop will be fascinating. 7y

shawnmooney Oh dear, the database has a very unfortunate spelling error. I will report it. 7y
