Judgmental Maps
Judgmental Maps: Your City. Judged. | Trent Gillaspie
5 posts | 2 read | 10 to read
Your City. Judged A sharp tongued and fierce witted full-color collection of maps of Americas greatest cities in all their brutally honest glory. When you move to a new city you look at a map to get you where you need to be, but a Google Map of San Francisco wont tell you where you can get Real Dim Sum or where The Worst Trader Joes Ever is. Or if youre visiting Chicago, you might want to see the Magnificent Mile, but not know its right next to where Suburbanites Buy Drugs and Retired Mafioso. This is where Judgmental Maps comes in a no holds barred look at city life that is at once a love letter and hate mail from the very people who live there. What started as a joke between comedian Trent Gillaspie and his friends in Denver, quickly grew into a viral sensation with a rabid and enthusiastic community labeling maps of their cities with names and descriptions we all think of, but are a bit too shy to say out loud. Collected here in a full color, beautifully packaged book with all new, never before published material, Judgmental Maps is laugh out loud funny from New York to Los Angeles, Minneapolis to Atlanta and offending everyone else in between.

I thought this would be fun snark, but I feel it veered past that into derision and contempt. It just made me sad.

vivastory I've heard good things about it 4y
Hooked_on_books @vivastory I haven‘t read that one, but the description sounds good. I‘ll check it out. Thanks! 4y

I'm seriously directionally challenged. It's possible I had this exact conversation with a friend. 😁

Credits in first two panels.

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled If someone says, “go North” I think “go up” 😆 6y
Laughterhp Unless You‘re getting on the highway, no one should say directions that way! 6y
Tamra Me too! 😂 6y
DGRachel This is me! My grandmother would give directions in compass points and I‘d freak out because I barely comprehend left and right. 🤣🤣 I had the worst anxiety in Kindergarten on the days we practiced left and right. It still stresses me out. 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks This is so me!!! I need landmarks not north, south, east or west!!!! 6y
Jee_HookedOnBookz That's me right there too! My husband can never understand it lol 6y

Pickpick

Hysterical. What is says about my home city is pretty spot on. Yep, these are accurate judgments. Good library find in the new stacks!
