An enticing title with a surprisingly intriguing true story of a road trip gone terribly wrong for two Ivy League graduates traveling in China in the 1980s. The author bares it all in this compelling read.

This book begins as a regular travel memoir — two friends embark on an ambitious backpacking trip to China after graduating from college in the late 1980s — but takes a very unexpected turn halfway through. It‘s hard to say much more without spoiling it, so I‘ll just say I really enjoyed it.

Holy smokes this book just blew my mind! Could NOT put this one down until I found out how it ended. Don't want to spoil it by saying too much. Truth really is stranger than fiction

This is my book for #augustphotochallenge #booksaboutinnocence. This is a fascinating travel memoir about two friends who go backpacking through Asia as young girls in their early 20s. I won't spoil what happens, but the end makes you go "WHA?!??" A book about young world travelers practically SCREAMS innocence, and it's in my top 5 favorite travel memoirs.

Cinfhen I always meant to read this...thanks for the reminder😊 8y

Leelee08 @Soubhiville It's very good, but different. Not your typical travel writing. 8y

Beginning the June book club book! Very excited; I loved her other novel "Ice Cream Queen of Orchard Street" and am looking forward to a memoir style book from her.
