Excellent book to use as comparison to our current president.

Listened to John Avalon talk about Washington‘s Farewell address on MPR yesterday. Here is the link: https://www.mprnews.org/topic/mpr-news-presents
Highly recommend listening to the presentation, so relevant to America today.

My current read--a gift from friends.
This book was interesting and easy to follow. I really enjoyed the narrative and in the process learned about a fallible man not an untouchable legend.
"The Terror had begun" It's National Book Week. The rules are, grab the closest book to you (don't go searching for your favorite or the most profound or intellectual - grab the closest book!), turn to page 56, post the 5th sentence as your status. Don't mention the title. Copy the rules as part of your status.
Straight from George Washington's (and Alexander Hamilton's) pen. Year 1796
Hahahahahaha. I was just thinking that before I got to that second sentence. Boy those Victorians really had a handle on over the top imagery.
When you excitedly run into your 15 yr olds room and announce you found a really cool word and he says with excitement "Oh yeah what's the definition!" You know that apple didn't fall far from the tree. ♡●♡●♡
Bravo Mr. Washington and I thank you for your service to our country!
Starting my eveing off with a read about our founding father and a cannoli.
As historian Daniel Boorstin wrote: "The heirs of Jefferson and Madison would be the Democratic - Republicans, the heirs of Hamilton and Adams would be the Federalist. But the heirs of Washington would be all Americans."

I strongly recommend this look at GW's farewell address in its context and as it has been used throughout American history. It's surprisingly relevant! The book is easy to read, and the audiobook, narrated by the author himself, is a winner! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Recommendsday
So glad I read this one!
Words of wisdom from George Washington, Founding Father and first President.
I just created a new lesson for my American Literature class, based on Washington's Farewell. Let's see how it goes.
I'm learning so much about George Washington, his presidency, the Constitution of the US, and its first tempestuous years as a republic. The primary source for this quote is: https://www.loc.gov/exhibits/treasures/trm006.html
Listening to and reading this thought-provoking book, which details how Washington fought for moderation and warned against the danger of factions pulling the republic apart. Wise words, Mr President.
(See #Septimus's ear there? He's purring on my lap 💜💜💜)
On facing criticism while being president (and Washington faced much criticism in the press, including some penned anonymously by high-ranking members of his own staff.)
Listening to the author's narration and #audiocoloring

#TBRtemptation post! President Washington's Farewell Address was considered so important that it was more published, copied, and referenced than almost any other document for--some moments even more the Declaration if Independence! It's been referenced by future presidents from Thomas Jefferson to Barack Obama. It's a crucial statement to know and understand, by a Daily Beast & CNN contributor. President's Day is soon! #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
