Dr. James Darke meditates on what he has loved and lost over the course of his life. I found his musings endearing, though surly, until around the middle when he deep-dived into his deceased wife's struggle with cancer. Talk about #misery! And I soon found myself tiring of his ceaseless conflict with his daughter who he is trying to cut ties with. Charming writing, but could've used some editing.

This book is #darkanddreary just how I like it.. and the narrator an old grump nearing the end of his life. While the grumpy old man trope has been reoccurring often, this one has some interesting insights. "Joan D'Idiot" had me chuckling ?

Dr. Darke has reached the end of his life and has cut himself off from the world to meditate on his failings and all of the loves that he lost. Gradually, while trying to immerse himself in only darkness, some hopeful bits of light begin to show. I‘ve had this on my list forever, for some reason drawn to this dark premise, and finally found a cheap copy! Planning on using for #booked2018 #MCover70yearsold

This book about a curmudgeonly old man, caught my interest months ago after I finished Ove ❤️ It's described as clever, cutting, & hilarious and yet I've had trouble pulling the trigger bc there are so few reviews. It might be time to give it a shot though... once I finish a row of #tbrbingo that is 😉
