A serial killer stalks Los Angeles in this terrifying thriller from the Sunday Timesbestselling author of The Executionerand The Crucifix Killer. An unidentified female body is brought into the Los Angeles County morgue. The cause of death is still unclear. Her body bares no marks; except for the fact that her most intimate parts have been stitched shut. But what shocks the pathologist the most is that the killer had left something inside her. Something so monstrous Detective Robert Hunter, of the Los Angeles Homicide Special Section, has to be pulled off a different case to take over the investigation. Within days a new body surfaces. Like the previous victim, she's also been stitched shut and something has been left inside her. Something as ingenious as it is grotesque. And the killer isn't done yet, not by a long shot. When his inquiry collides with a missing persons' case being investigated by the attractive, razor-sharp Whitney Meyers, Hunter suspects the killer might be keeping several women hostage. Soon Robert finds himself on the hunt for a murderer who is much more monstrous than he ever could have expected; a predator whose past hides a terrible secret, and who won't stop until each of his victims has brought forth the awful truth that lies hidden deep inside them too. Praise for Chris Carter: 'A gripping debut ... Not for the squeamish' Heat 'A page turner' Express

Got it finished!

Only three books into this series and Carter, you do that? Unbelievable! I was heartbroken. Why, did you do that?

I tell you this series just gets better. I know it's only three books, so far, but those first few pages???? Then it even gets more sinister and scary.

Robert Hunter and Carlos Garcia are looking for a killer. Women are being kidnapped and when their bodies are found, Hunter and Garcia can't believe what ⬇️

TheSpineView Love when a series gets better as the go along. Great job! 9mo
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 9mo
Andrew65 A brilliant series, but not always easy to read. Authors don‘t always treat their readers well. 9mo

Little road trip early this morning. On way back, see if I can get this finished before I get home. About 250 pages to go.

Monica5 Well, I barely got 50 pages read before my husband and my father-in-law started talking to me 😂 9mo

Finally! I was able to finish this book! I haven‘t been able to read physical books for quite a while because of migraines and fibromyalgia. I‘ve read this one before but it‘s always nice to see if you pick up something you missed the first time. I love all of Chris Carter‘s books but they are not for the faint of heart. #SeriesLove2023 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView

TheSpineView Well done!🤩📖😀 11mo
Andrew65 They are definitely not for the faint of heart. I love this series. Well done 👏👏👏 Good to hear you were able to read the physical book. (edited) 11mo

Andrew65 This is such a brilliant series. Brilliantly written and with great lead characters, I think they only get better as you work through the series. I‘ve finished 9 of the 12 books. Thoroughly recommend this series but just a warning the murder methods are quite grissly! Well done 👏👏👏 (edited) 12mo
CoverToCoverGirl Such high praise from you and @andrew65 on this series, I need to get to it! (edited) 12mo
Andrew65 @CoverToCoverGirl Most definitely, one of my favourite crime series. But you need to be happy with gritty crime fiction. 12mo
CoverToCoverGirl @Andrew65 is it more gruesome that Karin Slaughter, assuming you‘ve read her of course. 12mo
Andrew65 @CoverToCoverGirl No not really, imho. But will be interesting to see what you think when you read it. My wife doesn‘t really like gritty but really enjoys these books. (edited) 12mo

#Two4Tuesday

1. Comfortable lounge wear pants, loose flowing long skirt or pj bottoms with a tank top & very light hooded (zip-up preferably) sweater with pockets.

2. 🤨🤔🤯Surprisingly enough, only two at the moment. 1 ebook & 1 hardcover - been focusing more so on the tagged book though.

Thanks for the tag @Eggs 💙💙💙

TheSpineView There is a lot to be said for comfy! 13mo

An incredibly slow reading day today but…life still goes on. I did manage 6% of this new read though so, in this case, some is better than nothing.

TheSpineView Yes, some is always better. 13mo

No. 3 in the Detective Robert Hunter series. Re-reading it because I love the series and I‘ve run out of newer books to read. I recommend it if you don‘t mind very graphic detail. #RobertHunter #CarlosGarcia #homicide #ultraviolentcrime #serialkillers #ChrisCarter

Another riveting case from the files of Detective Robert Hunter. I literally could not put this down until I had finished it. Gruesome, captivating and ultimately, one of the best books I have read this year. I am enthralled by this series!

If you love serial killers, suspense, brilliant police officers, and fast paced reads, then you have to start this series. In this one, Hunter and Garica are tracking someone who‘s kidnapping women and keeping them several weeks before killing them. The methods in which he kills them makes me slightly afraid of this author. He is truly diabolical. Great book and series. Highly recommend 💜💜💜

I just made my first purchase from ThriftBooks. 😬 I‘m obsessed with this series and it‘s so hard to find the books.🤬 I was going to order the next one, The Death Sculptor, but it‘s out of stock. 🙃

Andrea313 Thrift Books is so wonderful and so dangerous! Happy searching. 🙂 5y
MrT I've read the first 2, and intend to read all the rest. Like you I'm having great difficulty finding the Death Sculptor and I Am Death in the reissued covers. 3y

My current reads of December, I‘m 77 books in to my 81 book goal so far and these two are books 78 & 79,so I‘m hoping to reach my goal before the end of the year.
As always Chris Carter never fails to bring a story so full of gore and intelligence and a difference to a crime story before.
Reading a little slower with Ice at the moment. It‘s a good book, but it feels a little slow paced, but I brought it two years ago and decided it‘s time to read.

The blurb on this cover does apply pretty well. I enjoy a murder mystery every now and then and Chris Carter's books read just like a CSI episode.

I've read two books called The Night Stalker this year but the one by Chris Carter would be my favourite theme, a dark theme to go with a dark time of day. I do really like the Robert Hunter Series by Chris Carter. I also enjoyed The Night Stalker by Robert Bryndza this year. Has anyone else read two books with the same title this year? #Rocktober #BecauseTheNight

About to start the third book in the Robert Hunter series, set in Los Angeles. This is an excellent crime series, based around the main character Detective Robert Hunter. I do recommend them but they are a touch gritty in places.
