My Hero Academia, Vol. 1
My Hero Academia, Vol. 1 | Kohei Horikoshi

What would the world be like if 80 percent of the population manifested superpowers called "Quirks" at age four? Heroes and villains would be battling it out everywhere! Being a hero would mean learning to use your power, but where would you go to study? The Hero Academy of course! But what would you do if you were one of the 20 percent who were born Quirkless? Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he hasn't got an ounce of power in him. With no chance of ever getting into the prestigious U.A. High School for budding heroes, his life is looking more and more like a dead end. Then an encounter with All Might, the greatest hero of them all, gives him a chance to change his destiny...

To be honest this one wasn't a huge pull for me but I understand the draw ans why it's so popular and for that I give it a pick. This story encourages you to go after your dreams. Can't succed if you don't try. I'll give this series another chance. Hopefully this was just rough as the author seemed to be setting up characters instead of storyline.

5✨Izuku Midoriya dreams of being a hero in a world where everyone has super powers called “quirks”… well except him and a few others. When he meets his favorite hero he finds out that his dream may still be a reality. Even though I‘ve been watching the series. It was so much fun to relive it in the manga.

Not usually my go to type of book, but I wanted to give something new a try. Especially because a number of my students are into manga.

When you decide to try your hand at drawing, but your drawing looks like some emo sketch you did in middle school. Sorry, Mr. Aizawa… I will try again on another volume. #manga #bookjournal (Eraser Head is my favorite character four seasons in to the anime and it doesn‘t seem to be changing with the manga.)

I'm a teen librarian now and our new director had actually added comics to our collection so I'm going to start as many series as possible! So far I didn't connect with either of these but will be picking up both second vols to give them more of a chance.

Borrowed this off my little sibling cause it's their thing at the moment. Also gonna watch the anime alongside it, and it's cool so far? Mostly introducing characters so waiting to see where it goes.

I loved the anime and had to jump into the manga! The main character Izuku Midoriya is really likeable, and I love how well he embodies the superhero spirit. Ms. Marvel is one of my favorite heroes in the Marvel universe and I love her line "Good is not a thing you are, it's a thing you do." And Izuku really lives by that! Looking forward to reading volume 2!

"People are not born equal."

I've watched the anime, which I found amazing and charming enough to have bought to manga as well! Loving the bright and bold colors on this cover.

Manga Mondays!

The story takes place in a modern world where people are born with Quirks, powers and abilities, yet not everyone is born with them. Enters Deku. He was born Quirkless but can someone so ordinary become a hero?

I really like and recommend this series. Deku is the underdog of the story and I root for, not only him, but his classmates as well. Im looking forward to seeing Deku grow and become a hero!

One of my former students dropped by my classroom to say hi this past week and I asked her about what interesting books she had read over the summer. The next day she brought this by for me to read. It's a fun change of pace from all the long books I've been reading lately. In a society where almost everyone is born with superpowers this kid has to earn his.

#studentrecommendation

Lmstraubie I love that a former student is sharing books with you!! 7y
Daisey @Lmstraubie I know; it's awesome! I usually try to pick up a few books that students love and ask me if I've read through the year, but so far she's the only one to actually bring me random books. This is the same student that brought me her copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the back to school open house last year when she was in my class. 7y
Lmstraubie I think she may be a future Librarian! 7y

After seeing all my favorite artists drawing fanart of it, I'm afraid I spent the whole Eid weekend reading Boku no Hero Academia and now I'm all caught up... Despite its many shounen manga cliches, it's genuinely full of heart, and I especially like the character of All Might, who is the absolute anime Dad 😂

If you need a take on the Shonen adventure genre that eschews some of its most odious tropes, let me point you to MY HERO ACADEMIA. Its lead has no innate abilities, to the point that someone else *gives* him theirs, and he literally suffers for it along the way. Controlling one's Quirk (MHA's preferred nomenclature for Super Power) entails training, and even then it can painfully backfire In short, it shakes up the genre in ways fans will enjoy.
