Forgotten Voices of The Holocaust
Forgotten Voices of The Holocaust: A new history in the words of the men and women who survived | Lyn Smith
6 posts | 3 read | 5 to read
Following the success of Forgotten Voices of the Great War, Lyn Smith visits the oral accounts preserved in the Imperial War Museum Sound Archive, to reveal the sheer complexity and horror of one of human history's darkest hours. The great majority of Holocaust survivors suffered considerable physical and psychological wounds, yet even in this dark time of human history, tales of faith, love and courage can be found. As well as revealing the story of the Holocaust as directly experienced by victims, these testimonies also illustrate how, even enduring the most harsh conditions, degrading treatment and suffering massive family losses, hope, the will to survive, and the human spirit still shine through.

I posted this singing intuitive several years ago but I think now, more than ever it needs repeating. Take two minutes watch the video and see the resilience of a people who will not be broken. The lyrics are so incredibly powerful and more relevant than ever. https://youtu.be/Vuh1-jDi7Qw?si=gOKocULMz6gLdxF2

As many of you know, this past February I traveled with my daughter to Poland to participate in a Jewish heritage trip. We visited many sites and cities where both terrible atrocities took place as did astonishing acts of bravery & courage. This Tuesday marks Holocaust Remembrance Day. JRoots, the company I toured with is offering a full day of testimony and survivors stories live on Facebook. Feel free to log in and participate. #WeRemember

The Holocaust has always been something I've felt close to. My family were Lithuanian Jews that luckily escaped and kept our heritage secret. I only found out when I was 19 (8yrs ago), when a great uncle of mine was on his deathbed. I am still trying to find out more about my family. In a month I'm visiting Dachau. As morbid as it seems, I am really looking forward to this. This book is an amazing and enthralling read. Highly recommend.

Every once in a while you find a book that grabs a part of your heart and mind and lives there for the rest of your life. This book does just that, you need to read it.

I am making my way through this book. It is eye opening, lovely, and horrible all at the same time. It is a difficult read, but well worth it. The format of broken up stories makes everything that much more impactful.

About to dive into this book, I needed to be mentally prepared for it. I will post a review when done.
