Driving Over Lemons
Driving Over Lemons: An Optimist in Spain | Chris Stewart
11 posts | 18 read | 9 to read
No sooner had Chris Stewart set eyes on El Valero than he handed over a check. Now all he had to do was explain to Ana, his wife that they were the proud owners of an isolated sheep farm in the Alpujarra Mountains in Southern Spain. That was the easy part. Lush with olive, lemon, and almond groves, the farm lacks a few essentialsrunning water, electricity, an access road. And then there's the problem of rapacious Pedro Romero, the previous owner who refuses to leave. A perpetual optimist, whose skill as a sheepshearer provides an ideal entre into his new community, Stewart also possesses an unflappable spirit that, we soon learn, nothing can diminish. Wholly enchanted by the rugged terrain of the hillside and the people they meet along the wayamong them farmers, including the ever-resourceful Domingo, other expatriates and artistsChris and Ana Stewart build an enviable life, complete with a child and dogs, in a country far from home. From the Trade Paperback edition.

I usually only listen to non-fiction because I never seem to get through them if I read them. This made me a bit worried starting this book, but it read so easily. I quite enjoyed reading about Chris making a life in Spain. 4⭐️ This is the last book in #LMPBC #round4 #groupd Heading back home to its owner soon @LazyDays

This book was so full of fantastic stories that it makes me think I can buy a dilapidated farm and sheer sheep. It was charming and I just loved it

I have to admit I only read this book because of the title... it was too weird to ignore! 😂
In the end though I did really enjoy the story. And expat moves to Spain with his wife to start a new life, and this follows the rollercoaster ride that is their life. I liked Chris' optimism in the face of adversity, and the cast of lovable locals. A fun little read 😊 ❤🧡💛

Rebesta I‘ve read books just because the title was odd too. I‘ve also been guilty of buying books because I liked the cover art. 6y
TCLinrow @Rebesta is that not how you're meant to pick books? 😉 I pick most of mine that way if I'm honest. Pretty covers, weird names or recommendations from friends 😊 6y
Rebesta @TCLinrow - Come to think of it, I don't think I've picked them any other way. :-) 6y
Moony It sounds really funny! 6y
