Theodore Rex is the storynever fully told beforeof Theodore Roosevelts two world-changing terms as President of the United States. A hundred years before the catastrophe of September 11, 2001, TR succeeded to power in the aftermath of an act of terrorism. Youngest of all our chief executives, he rallied a stricken nation with his superhuman energy, charm, and political skills. He proceeded to combat the problems of race and labor relations and trust control while making the Panama Canal possible and winning the Nobel Peace Prize. But his most historic achievement remains his creation of a national conservation policy, and his monument millions of acres of protected parks and forest. Theodore Rex ends with TR leaving office, still only fifty years old, his future reputation secure as one of our greatest presidents. From the Trade Paperback edition.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Read this book to become well versed in the intricacies of Roosevelt's presidency.
Not as thrilling as The Rise but bursting with nuance into his political theories.
A man who accomplished much. Yet, he was clear in his attempt to undue the democratic underpinnings of America that make her so great.

RamsFan1963 I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "he was clear in his attempt to undue the democratic underpinnings of America". What exactly do you mean? 3y
Vivlio_Gnosi He frequently made efforts to consolidate power at the executive level, made efforts to weaken laws protecting states rights, and many of his reforms were aimed at governmental over-sight. To his credit he championed several important changes such as regulating food quality and other consumer protection initiatives. But he wrote frequently in favor of a socialistic operating system. 3y

Morris provides context to the adage that's most commonly associated with Roosevelt, speak softly and carry a big stick.

Moving, powerful, deeply informative - this is not only one of the strongest biographies I have ever read but a very galvanizing one. Roosevelt strides like a colossus over every page, from first to last. Heady, fascinating stuff.

I actually own this hardcover, but I don't think I'll ever actually read it - so I'm going to try the audio instead. I tend to gravitate towards nonfiction audio, for the most part.

Zelma Me too. I only listen to nonfiction - books and podcasts. Fiction just doesn't work for me on audio. 8y
CaitlinByTheBook I'm the same way - nonfiction is better on audio than fiction for me. 8y
Kristy_K I recently started listening to audiobooks and have found I'm the same way. 8y

Regardless of your political leanings, this is a great look at history through an objective lense. Morris starts this book at the beginning of Roosevelt's first term and ends it at his leaving office. A must read for history buffs. Note: this reads like a novel and not a history book.
