I took the kiddos on their first college tour today and bought myself an adorable new bookmark from one of the bookstores 😀

Kaye I love these. 6y
Cortg @Kaye It‘s my first one and I love the concept of not having to take it out and put it in. I may not lose this one! 6y
Kaye First bookmark I‘ve owned that I‘ve never lost. I got my first one maybe 6 months ago and still have it. Never fallen out or off the book. Whoever invented these was a genius. 6y

Last college tour pic is NC State's Hunt Library. I thought Liberty's library was big, but this one is 200k more square feet! And it's one of the other 5 that has the robotic book retrieval, which we HAD to see on the engineering tour. I found out why- it only takes up 1/9 of the space of the books in stacks.

Megabooks I've been there! It's a great library. I did most of my pre-vet work at NCSU. 8y
ReadingEnvy It's amazing! Plus the army of programmers the library has to let them do innovative stuff online too. 8y
Donna_sBookMinute I'm so curious about the robotic book retrieval. I'm sure I'll marvel at a demonstration. But, the mere thought of it seems so foreign to this wanderer of aisles. 8y

The tour goes on, so I took a quick pic of the place where I wanted to spend more time. Of course, college bookstores don't have but so many books. However at this one you can get Clinique!? In case your makeup melts off mid campus?

auntie_jenn we have a whole Vera Bradley section at the UMass campus store, and we're one of the first Amazon textbook campuses. students get free Prime! 8y
ReadingEnvy Oh yeah I mean party emergency right? ;) You know, Main Street in Charlottesville has six book stores at least. In case you get a vote as a parent for the place you'd most like to visit. 😎 8y
ValerieAndBooks We have just begun doing college tours with my youngest son (although he's still a HS sophomore) and I honestly believe you can glean a lot about the school by their bookstore(s)! (edited) 8y

Liberty University today showed us the latest of everything. Their library is huge and one of only 5 in the country that is robotic. Can request a book from your dorm and they have it waiting when you get to the library. All books are in these boxes and the system gets it for you. No need to get lost in the stacks. Great for speed, but some of us liked the stacks.

ReadingEnvy It looks cool but to me it says "we don't want to spend money on a new library because books are over." Which I find... Hasty. 8y
SaraFair @ReadingEnvy - I think I explained it wrong. The robotics are just a contraption to get the books from storage in the center of the library. It was completed in 2014 and is 4 stories with 170,000 square feet. Loads of books!🙂 (edited) 8y
ReadingEnvy @SaraFair the future!! 8y
I-read-and-eat I really like the stacks at my uni. There are always some books on the topic I am researching which I find there and did not know of before. Browsing then has gotten me some very interesting books. But I do see how the speed can be helpfull. However, when I request a book it's there the next day, the librarians know exactly where to find it. I would hate for them to lose their job. 8y

College tour during Spring Break - first stop Va Tech. Library has a cafe for coffee and Apple iMacs for research. Blacksburg is a big town. My Dad's alma mater, but I have never been here.

ReadingEnvy I know one of the librarians there! 8y
BookNAround The amenities at all colleges these days are crazy! 8y
LeeRHarry Very cool building! 😊 8y

SaraFair @LeeRHarry - all the bldgs are made of that local limestone and the newer bldgs have been made to fit right in with those from the 1920's. i wanna go back! 8y
SaraFair @ReadingEnvy - what a great place to work! 8y
ReadingEnvy Will you visit SC at all? 8y
SaraFair @ReadingEnvy - no we won't. We will get in state tuition in either NC or VA. We live in NC and my husband works in VA. I know some crazy SC fans tho! 8y
