One of the best of the Kate Burkholder series: Amish man Joseph King was convicted for killing his wife/mother of their 5 kids, but, claiming innocence, has escaped prison and taken the kids and Kate hostage…
Nice twists

#9 in the Kate Burkholder series. The case Kate works on in this installment involves the boy-now man-who lived on the farm next to hers when they were kids. Kate works extra hard (and a bit recklessly) to clear his name of crimes he was convicted for but claims he did not commit. Several times, she puts herself in harms way, and several times it is a close call for her. She does this in every single installment!

I loved it. This is a good one.

I didn't like this book as much as the first eight, but it was still good.

The 9th book in the series sees Chief Kate Burkholder come face to face with her first love who has just escaped prison. He says he is innocent & wants Kate to exonerate him.

This case zips along at a fair pace although it can be formulaic at times. Kate is a realistic MC, the woman in a man's world & she has to work so much harder and smarter to be accepted by those outside her own team. Looking forward to the next one. 4 🌟

This is a 'Kate Burkholder' story. A man in prison for killing his wife escaped. This concerns Chief Burkholder because it was an Amish family. Kate gets caught up in trying to prove the husband's innocence. Highly recommend.

Since I knew I would go see Linda Castillo this evening and get her most recent book, I figured I better read the one I purchased of hers A YEAR AGO! I am so easily distracted by new books. Anyway, this was a solid addition to the Kate Burkholder series. I did not figure this one out until close to the end. I was wrong about the character I thought would be the killer. The way the author writes of the Amish is very believable and respectful.

I like this series. They are disturbing, but not horrifying. The first was the most gruesome. The whole former-Amish detective thing is fun for me, since I grew up in the heart of Amish country in PA.

Here are some of the authors I saw yesterday at the San Antonio Book Festival. A few of them were already on my TBR and some have been added.

I have already read a number of Linda Castillo‘s books but it was cool to see her in person. Tagged book is the latest in her series.

Jason Reynolds is awesome! If you have the chance to hear him speak, go!

I also saw Paula Poundstone and she was hilarious.

Chief Kate Burkholder was in rare form, not as on top of things as she usually is (she's a human character, afterall). But, for all the build up and backstory, the ending was not only predictable but rushed. A better wrap up would have been nice.

I could hardly put this book down. I kind of knew what was going on early in the book but it didn't dampen the suspense at all. Kate Burkholder is like one of those characters in a teen slasher movie. I'm yelling "Kate, don't go in there alone!" But she always does! ?

Earlier this year I discovered Castillo's Kate Burkholder series and I have loved every book. My grandparents live in Lancaster County Pennsylvania and whenever I visit them, to this day, I love visiting the Amish markets, seeing their horse and buggies on the road, and learning more about their culture. I have been lucky enough to have met Linda Castillo twice this year. I hope she continues to visit AZ on her book tours.

I had wonderful time this evening. My local library hosted Linda Castillo to discuss her new book Down a Dark Road. It is the latest installment in the Kate Burkholder series. Linda was very friendly and gracious in answering all of our questions. I am looking forward to reading this latest book.

Solid crime thriller. I enjoy Castillo's Kate Buckholder series -- they are well constructed and fast paced with characters that hold your attention.

This completes my #BookBinge of the series! An exciting addition- not the most unpredictable but still an edge-of-your-seat read! Can't wait to see what happens in the tenth book!!
