“The purpose of life—if it may be said to have purpose—is not ease. It is to choose, and to act upon the choice. In that task, we are not measured by outcomes. We are measured only by daring and effort and resolve.” #Life #QuotsyJan20

“Mortal lives are not stones. They are not seas. For impermanence to judge itself by the standards of permanence is #folly. Or it is arrogance. Life merely is what it is, neither more nor less. To deem it less because it is not more is to heed the counsels of the Despiser.” #QuotsyApr19

“Ah, deserve,” sighed Kindwind. “The notion of deserved and undeserved is a fancy. Knowing both life and death, we endeavor to impose worth and meaning upon our deeds, and thereby to #comfort our fear of impermanence." #QuotsyMay18
"The larger truth is merely that all things end. By that measure, our fancies cannot be distinguished from dust. For this reason, Giants love tales. Our iteration of past deeds and desires and discoveries provides the only form of permanence to which mortal life can aspire. That such permanence is a chimera does not lessen its power to console. Joy is in the ears that hear.” I've always loved Donaldson's Giants ❤️ #Discovery #QuotsyDec17
"Oh, hell, I've written entire novels about this. 'Guilt is power. Only the damned can be saved.' Maybe that sounds cynical. Maybe it is. But who else needs to be saved? Who else can be? Not the innocent." #Innocence #QuotsyNov17
I'm way behind, so I'm hitting several prompts with one post. My favourite #dark #fantasy series are Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, and Moorcock's Elric of Melnibone. I think each series could be considered a #cultclassic. Both anti-heroes are #criminals in some sense, with #family issues and #dreams of #revenge, although each deals with his problems in very different ways. #NoteworthyNovember
Oh, my heart! This book is definitely a PICK for me. It was a satisfying conclusion to the Chronicles, but I feel like I need to let it sink in that the series is over. From the first book to the last, I was entranced by the Land. Over the course of the series, I began to warm up to Covenant as he learned to love the Land and its people and went to extreme ends to save them. Donaldson isn't for everyone, but I find his work inspiring. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I'm running out of book! 😱 I don't want to put it down, but I'm afraid to finish. I don't want it to be over! I foresee tears in my future. #SaturdayAfternoon #EpicConclusion #BookishProblems
The #EpicReread is done! At long last, I've reached the moment I've been waiting for: reading the final book of the Thomas Covenant Chronicles for the first time. It's a bittersweet moment; longing to know how it all ends, yet not wanting it to end; the need to savour every word at odds with the compulsion to devour this book as quickly as possible. I'm taking time to revel in the moment. I think the conclusion to an epic series deserves no less.
I've been dying to read the conclusion of the Thomas Covenant series, but I was waiting until I had a chance to reread the first 9 books. I used to feel bad about rereading books since my TBR mountain is so high, but no more! The time has come! I started with book 1 a few days ago and I'm thinking the #SlayThatSeriesReadathon is the perfect way to make a dent in this stack. Bring on the weekend!
My library is still full of stuff stowed away before the holidays so I can't get to most of my shelves! I'll try to make one photo work for 4 different prompts for all the February photo challenges I want to do this month: #Riotgrams #17BookLove #FeistyFeb #BookLove17 Here's a #shelfie of #TBR & to be re-read books by an #AuthorILove. I can't say I #LovetoHate any of these so far, but that definitely describes some characters in these books!
I want to visit The Land again, but I'm torn. I haven't yet read the final book from The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. Been thinking I'd at least reread the previous 3 books from the tetralogy, but with so many books on my tbr pile, I almost hate to devote so much time to rereading books! But the culmination of an epic series deserves to be savoured, doesn't it? Going back to the 1st trilogy! #booktober #wishicouldbethere #readingproblems
