I really wanted to love this. I do love the term hagitude and I am finally embracing my cronehood. But there was too much psychology and not enough mythology for me. And then the author states that there should be gathering places for women who were born as women, basically saying that it's OK to exclude trans folx in certain cases. So yeah, not great. We don't all need the exact same experience to relate.

Finally finished the short stories of the Locke family. Definitely a prequel and such wonderful artwork and very happy with the Sandman crossover story.

Yesterday my youngest participated in the school district‘s social studies & science fair. As soon as she saw the brochure she said she wanted to do it (so huge for a kid with lots of anxiety). She said she wanted to do her presentation on Mae Jemison. She‘s worked hard for the last few weeks. She was interviewed by teachers & high school students. One of the teachers thanked her for highlighting such an important person in history. When asked why

4 ⭐ When reading this book out loud, you can tell it was written by a singer. The book follows the same ups and downs one normally finds in a song which makes this book work well. The idea is why not you if other people can do it? Why can‘t you do it too? This book is telling you that you can do it, you just have to try. I like everything about this book.

It pains me to say it but I couldn‘t finish this one. I love Murakami & have read all of his books (& loved most). This was too abstract & vague for me. It seemed directionless (more than usual), I didn‘t care about the characters as they seemed so bland & the fantasy elements of the nameless town left me cold. Often Murakami can make a scene where not much happens really gripping & the supernatural believable, but this was too floaty for me.

Murakami revisits ideas from Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World in this novel. He creates a new and refreshing story while maintaining a sense of nostalgia of his previous novel. I really enjoyed this book. As with most Murakami I couldn‘t put it down. Highly recommend. 4/5 stars
