Year Zero
Year Zero: A Novel | Rob Reid
11 posts | 19 read | 18 to read
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER Low-level entertainment lawyer Nick Carter thinks its a prank, not an alien encounter, when a redheaded mullah and a curvaceous nun show up at his office. But Frampton and Carly are highly advanced (if bumbling) extraterrestrials. The entire cosmos, they tell him, has been hopelessly hooked on American pop songs ever since Year Zero (1977 to us), resulting in the biggest copyright violation since the Big Bang and bankrupting the whole universe. Nick has just been tapped to clean up this mess before things get ugly. Thankfully, this unlikely galaxy-hopping hero does know a thing or two about copyright law. Now, with Carly and Frampton as his guides, Nick has forty-eight hours to save humanitywhile hoping to wow the hot girl who lives down the hall from him.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description or reason for wanting to read the book. Some are old and some will be new. Don't judge me - I have a lot of books.

Perfect reading buddy. It‘s a good thing I don‘t need both hands to read. #catsoflitsy #bugabookitty

I‘m not Nick but this was a great #thriftstorefind. I had enjoyed the audiobook of this quite a while ago but never owned a physical copy. This one will do just fine for $2!

I was really excited to read this when I heard it was being compared to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but it fell a little flat. It was good and worth the read-I laughed out loud at quite a bit of it-but I wasn't ever super excited to pick it back up the next day.

Ubergeekygirl I want this!! 8y
sherrynuts @Ubergeekygirl If you have a Dollar Tree near you, go check out their book section. That's where I found this one. Hard to beat $1! 8y

"Aliens suck at music." And with that line, I was sucked in. I laughed out loud several times while reading and while I wouldn't call it great literature or place it up there with Hitchhiker's Guide, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

BookFreakOut I saw this at the Dollar Tree and thought it looked fun, good to know it'd be worth the dollar. 8y
Texasblues @BookFreakOut Definitely worth $1! 8y

Just downloaded this from the library - looks interesting.

CherylDeFranceschi It's been on my TBR for a long time. I look forward to hearing how it is. 9y
Texasblues @sherrynuts posted a quote earlier and it intrigued me enough to go look for it at the library. It's immediate availability was enough to pop it to the top of my TBR pile. 9y
jmkeene This was all right. Not amazing but entertaining enough for a short read. 9y
Texasblues So far, it's cracking me up. 9y

Texasblues I kept chucking last night and then couldn't explain myself to the hubs. The Eatiary was killing me. 9y
Texasblues Chuckling not chucking - stupid autocorrect. 9y
