#two4tuesday @TheSpineView

(1) Oh yes. My sister and I used to have a bunk bed, and we made it into a blanket fort all the time ☺ï¸

(2) The tagged, which was probably the first book I picked up because I chose to, and I enjoyed it immensely.

Thanks for the tag @The_Penniless_Author 🙂

TheSpineView Thanks for playing! 🌞📖📚 6mo

#BookCoverChallenge
Day 169.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.

julesG This is one of my favourite books. My copy must be at least 30 years old. 2y

Lotte and Luise meet at summer camp, surprised to find they share the same face and the same birthdate and the same birthplace and wait a minute ...

It's creaky sometimes, but given that it's a children's novel from 1949 about twins who reunite their divorced parents (it's the source of "The Parent Trap"), I'm surprised that it hasn't aged worse. The author's respect for children is strong, and that helps a lot.

julesG I was similarly surprised how well this one aged. I read it with my daughter a year ago. 3y

I'm a little late for this #MoviesInApril prompt, but I couldn't miss the chance to gush about the charming little book that inspired #TheParentTrap! Our leading ladies are curly-haired Lisa from Vienna and braid-wearing Lottie from Munich who meet at summer camp and discover they‘re identical twins. I love both film versions, but I love the book more, and I keep two copies- just in case something happens to one! 😆
@Klou

Klou Perfect!!! 3y
eeclayton This was the first book I remember reading on my own, so it'll always have a special place in my heart â˜ºï¸ 3y
Andrea313 @eeclayton I love that! What a great memory. â¤ï¸ 3y

I can't give this book a review pretending I didn't read it solely to compare it with the 1961 film, which is one of my fave movies ever, which I have seen appx three thousand times. In many ways, this book is completely different, but weird identical (ha! get it?) things pop up between them, such as exact lines of dialogue. The biggest difference, of course, is that the book is set in 1949. In Germany.

Megabooks That pug! ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ 4y
wanderinglynn I love the 1961 film. Love the chemistry between Maureen O‘Hara and Brian Keith. â¤ï¸ 4y
Brooke_H @Megabooks I know! He‘s a cute little character in the book. @wanderinglynn Right?? She‘s so gorgeous. They‘re both such good actors. 4y

A very sweet children's story, which inspired two very fun movies! #alike #QuotsyApr20

BronwynMahon Love the original Parent Trap SO much!! The Lindsey gets way too much credit in my opinion. 4y
Andrea313 @BronwynMahon I love both, but as I saw the original first, it holds a special place! 4y
BronwynMahon Exactly! I still sometimes quote it, but only my mom ever catches it! 4y
HOTPock3tt Loved the original!!! â™¥ï¸ remake was ok too! 4y

The Parent Trap | Anthea Bell, Erich Kästner

Long before Lindsay Lohan made us fall in love with her as Annie + Hallie in the nineties adaptation of The Parent Trap, there was a German children‘s book that inspired it. There are *some* threads in the book of the movie(s) we love — summer camp, twin swapping, a self-involved potential stepmother — but the similarities stop there, and the story is shockingly dark. My guests + I explore it on the new episode of my pod! Link to listen in bio!

julesG One of my favourite books from my childhood, it used to be required reading when I went to primary school in Germany. 4y
ahoffkosik @julesG thank you so much for sharing!!! 4y

The #wanttoswitchout prompt made me think of this book from when I was a kid. This is the book the movie The Parent Trap was based on this German book, and I had this edition when I was little. Lisa and Lottie instead of Sharon and Susan. I loved this one! #survivingdecember

Blaire I had no idea that movie was based on a book!! 6y
RowReads1 A blast from the past. I loved it too👭. 6y

I don't have a lot of #retrocovers that you haven't already seen for today's #riotgrams, but here's my Lottie and Lisa (which you could just see the spine of in yesterday's picture). I've loved this book since primary school and adore the Hayley Mills film. Even though splitting up twins is terrible parenting, it's a brilliant story.

BookishBeth I had that book when I was in the fourth grade. I loved that book! The cover was so different. Mine had a very 80's vibe. 7y
Verity @BookishBeth the copy I read at school was brown and yellow! I'm glad mine is a bit nicer! 7y

Germany has a lot of authors, new and old. If you want to find #IndigenousAuthors in my bookshelves, you have to have a look at children's books.

#JuneBookBug @RealLifeReading

PS: I know the Ardagh book was not written by a German, but the illustrator is German.
