Drawing on the unique historical sites, archives, expertise, and unquestioned authority of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, "New York Times" bestselling authors Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colon have created the first authorized and exhaustive graphic biography of Anne Frank. Their account is complete, covering the lives of Anne's parents, Edith and Otto; Anne's first years in Frankfurt; the rise of Nazism; the Franks' immigration to Amsterdam; war and occupation; Anne's years in the Secret Annex; betrayal and arrest; her deportation and tragic death in Bergen-Belsen; the survival of Anne's father; and his recovery and publication of her astounding diary."

This #NonfictionGraphicNovel complements Anne Frank‘s diary so well - using her words, along with historical facts about the period, it really transports the reader to Anne‘s world. It‘s sobering, and some of the illustrations are very haunting. But, it‘s also a gentle way to introduce the atrocities those of the Jewish faith faced in World War II era Europe. #MiddleGrade #BBRC

Crazeedi I just saw this on a website, itvlooks good. Her diary was a seminal book of my youth 4y
Daisey I really enjoyed this one as well. 4y
LibrarianRyan This is a different g n than the one I‘ve seen. 4y
Librarybelle @Crazeedi @Daisey @LibrarianRyan I thought it was done very well, taking readers beyond the diary and connecting Anne‘s story with what was happening in the world. 4y

“By then, Anne had developed new interests. Reading was one she shared...“

This book would be good for 3rd graders and above. This would be a good book for when students are learning about the holocaust. It is a comic book so it could be great for younger kids but some of the images towards the end are gruesome so I would gear it towards older elementary kids for that reason.

This is a biography children's book. The text and illustrations are shown by a comic book style. The text and illustrations show consistency in the story because the story stays the same throughout the book through the pages. The book offers interest and meaning for childrens lives today because this was such a historical event. Its important children get the chance to be aware of what Anne Frank and others went through.

Since this is a comic and there‘s not many pictures, I choose this page because it‘s something to be aware of, the pictures of the guns with younger children

I would use this in my classroom with older children when talking about anne frank because it‘s not as serious with comics as it would be with pictures

Anne Frank: The Anne Frank House Authorized Graphic Biography (B and IR) is a tough book for students to read. Even though it is a Graphic Novel, this book touches upon many difficult topics and can be a hard read. I would recommend it to upper level fifth grade students. This touches upon UDL Principle 5.3: Buid fluencies with graduated levels of support for practice and performance. #LAE3414sp19

gnewman This novel also incorporates ESOL Strategy 11: Place language in meaningful context. The deep, heart-wrenching material that is explained throughout this book has really touched me. And, as I looked for high quality resources, I found that they were non-existent for this book. So, as a result, I found a connecting resource for teaching about the Diary of Anne Frank. The website is https://mchekc.org/library/teachingannefrank 6y
DrSpalding I agree that this must be used with upper elementary if not middle school students. She was such a courageous child and what she endured was horrific! Helpful resource. You are thoughtfully aligning your English learner and universal design principles. 6y

This was definitely worth the read. Everyone knows about Anne Frank, but it was interesting reading about her in this format. It gave a little bit of more background on Otto Frank and how the family came to be.

Picked this one up from the library on a whim. Didn't expect to learn anything new but I actually did learn a bit about Anne's parents. I even got a bit emotional towards the end. Definitely worth the read since it only takes about an hour!

TheBookbabeblog84 I just added this to my Book Depository list to buy this month ❤️ 8y

In honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, here are two favorites. I had the opportunity to visit the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam in 2014 and it just brought Anne's diary to life in such an amazing way! I found this 1952 Modern Library edition some years ago with a foreword by Eleanor Roosevelt. #WWII #holocaust #graphicnovel

LeahBergen I think this is the book I have reread the most in my life. 8y
Hooked_on_books I was at the museum last April and I agree. Devastating. 8y
Jhullie I went in 1987 and was devastated that they had run out of English copies of the book. I really wanted to buy one there. 8y

EvieBee @LeahBergen it's so moving. I've only read it twice. Should probably revisit. 8y
EvieBee @Hooked_on_books I never could really picture the entrance over the bookcase until I was there. Exactly as described! 8y
EvieBee @Jhullie How awful! Had I not already owned a copy I would have been upset. I was rushed toward the end and couldn't find any souvenir that was under $30 so I didn't get anything. 😳 8y
Donna_sBookMinute Such a heart-wrenching account. Anne Frank will always have a place on my list of #sheroes 8y
kspenmoll I was there in 1992 & like all of you, was so moved - my copy of the diary was published in 1967 with photo from the movie on the cover . So sorry @Jhullie ! 8y
MyNamesParadise I was there in 2014 too!!! In early January!! 8y
EvieBee @MyNamesParadise Awesome! I was there in August to welcome turning 30. I stayed until October (in Holland). 8y
EvieBee @Donna_sBookMinute definitely! And so close to surviving. That always works me up. 8y
EvieBee @kspenmoll We should all exchange pictures of our copies. I hadn't realized how many there are! 8y

Book 2 for the Dewey's Readathon! Last year we went to Amsterdam & paid homage to the Anne Frank house. It was beyond moving-stark, terrifying, endlessly sad. I wanted to read this in light of our current political temperature. This panel reminds me how quickly evil can take root. #Readathon
