Being a member of the Elite Hunter Command imperils Joy in more ways than one. In their latest clash with Othersiders, the army of monsters nearly wiped them out. Apex City is safe for now. But within the city barriers, Joy must wage a different kind of war. The corrupt and powerful PsiCorps is determined to usurp the Hunters as chief defenders of Apex City and Joy is now squarely in their crosshairs. Unused to playing political games, she has very few people she can truly trust-not even Josh, her first friend in Apex City, who broke up with her when it became too dangerous for a Psimon to be dating a Hunter. Then Josh comes to Joy for help. He fears that Abigail Drift, the head of PsiCorps, will soon use him in her twisted experiments designed to empower PsiCorps and render Hunters superfluous--a scheme that's already killed off dozens of Psimons. Joy manages to smuggle Josh to safety, but he cannot evade Drift forever As Joy faces ever more powerful Othersiders, she is helped by the most surprising ally imaginable---the same Folk Mage she once met in battle on the train to Apex City. But can Joy trust the most cunning and treacherous of all Othersiders? In the thrilling finale to Mercedes Lackey's #1 New York Times bestselling trilogy, Joy must risk everything to end a brutal war before she loses all she's ever loved.

Didn‘t quite stick the landing for me. The ending seemed very rushed. I liked the series but it isn‘t a reread for me. I think the third book could have been so good, just needed a little more world building and a stronger finish. I probably would have enjoyed this a lot more as teen. Sometimes I need an easy read and this definitely checked that box.

Another great book, but I MUST get this series in print as it will be one I reread
Joy and the other Elites are on constant alert as a surge in Folk from the other world leads to many battles - and stolen people. Folk leaders are plotting and Joy must try to navigate their politics as well as human politics all while staying alive.
5/5 stars a great blend of post apocalyptic teen drama with real political issues, with a dark look at our future.

Final book in the series and a great finale! Carried on the attention to detail and human characters. Stakes are raised and more political subterfuge is introduced. Honestly, it‘s plotted out really well and its super hard to write smart characters. In this book everything‘s pretty frantic at Hunter HQ and they need everyone. As I said before, the book didn‘t disappoint!

This seemed like a good end to the series, but it felt rushed. I didn't even realize Mark Knight had actually died, that's how quick the event was described! I was amused at the idea of the Wild Hunt manifesting in this particular way, though.

The time when all your Libby holds - placed several weeks apart - arrive at the same time. At least this is my reading view!

I really, really like this entire series. This book had slightly odd pacing, and didn‘t quite tie up all the loose ends the way I would have wanted, but the main character and story was resolved. And maybe we‘ll get amother one set in this universe! I do love the series with a strong heroine, that also stresses the importance of friendship and teamwork.

I'm so excited! My brother got a copy of this for me at GenCon and it's signed by Mercedes Lackey. He said she helped him pick it out for me. I can't wait for him to send it to me. A family that geeks together, stays together.

So apparently I'm not a very good reference librarian. Someone told me last year she was dead. I think they may have gotten her and Anne McCaffery mixed up. I still love this cover though. #coverlove #YAedition

Leniverse What!? Mercedes Lackey is dead?!? 7y
LibrarianRyan @Leniverse okay apparently not. It's kind of funny, last year a staff memeber got a notice she died and did a very large display and write up. I never bothered to check if she was right. 7y
Leniverse LOL! Whew. 😅 7y
LibrarianRyan @Leniverse I'm betting my ditz of a staff member got her and Anne McCaffery mixed up. But that still wouldn't make sense since Anne passed in 2011. 7y
GondorGirl Totally not dead! In fact, I've got tickets to meet her in two weeks! 7y
