Words | Jean-Paul Sartre
6 posts | 2 read | 1 reading | 3 to read
Jean-Paul Sartre was brought up at his grandfather's home. This book recalls his illusion-ridden childhood, lived within the confines of French provincialism in the years before World War I, and considers its effects on his works.

Does anyone else decorate their walls with words? This is over my desk at work. I love quotes and inspiration.

PaperbackReader I write my favorite quotes in journals. I have since college. So far, four journals full! 6y
Chrissyreadit @PaperbackReader that is awesome! I did that in college but haven‘t kept a journal in 16 years. I may have to start again. (edited) 6y

Don't ask me who Sartre is because I don't know. I do know that this quote sums up my life, though.

JamieArc I‘m a Quaker and attend a silent meeting. One of the things I love (and how I knew I was home there) was that it is TOTALLY acceptable (and common) to bring a book and spend the hour reading 😊 6y
TK-421 I read some of his work when I was in high school, but I remember none of it. I think it was The Age of Reason, but I'm not sure. It might have been Troubled Sleep. 🤔 6y
bookloo Haha!! I was JUST learning about him in class today! He was a a philosopher who believed in existentialism and had a relationship with one of the greatest feminists in literature, Simone de Beauvoir. ☺️💞 6y

LectricSheep @JamieArc I went to a Friends middle school; we went to meeting every Wednesday and no one ever told us we could bring books! For the first time in my life, I feel like the Quakers betrayed me! 😂 6y
JamieArc @LectricSheep Maybe a school was a bit more strict 😊. Or maybe my meeting is just really cool like that because so many of us are readers! 6y
EchoLogical @JamieArc That sounds like something I could get behind. 6y
EchoLogical @TK-421 I don't remember anything I read in HS except for The Odyssey 😂 6y
EchoLogical @bookloo Which class? 6y
bookloo @EchoLogical World Literature II. ☺️ 6y
EchoLogical @bookloo Ahh I feel marginally better. Lol 6y
