Painful to read and so incredible powerful. I can't quite put this one into words yet because it's certainly been a journey!
My first Colson Whitehead but definitely not my last!

The wonderful @Sarah83 has sent me an incredible box of gifts for my birthday. As our birthdays are close together I am going to wait for her birthday before I open them all so we can celebrate together. I did open this little gem this morning and I am so happy! I love Dickens and very nearly bought this vintage Folio a few months back. Sarah really is my book twin! Thank you my dear friend! Xx
A nice glass of Rosè cava to accompany my afternoon reading today. Can't beat bubbles on a beautiful day!

I love this gothic #cover
Happy 2nd Birthday to my daughter Rose.
It was actually last Thursday but it has been such a busy and lovely Bank Holiday weekend.
These wonderful gifts were sent all the way from Germany from the wonderful and generous @sarah83 It was a bit of a struggle to take the cat away from Rose for a minute so I could take a photo!
The Pom Bears were munched on the day so didn't make the photo!!
Thank you @Sarah83 for being so lovely and thoughtful
@sarah83 Is it ok to change my #litsyclassic list as I go along. This one is a nice surprise and not on my original list! Chapter 1 of our #buddyread complete before bed.
And so begins my #buddyread with @sarah83
Such an atmospheric start. I love the film but this is my first reading of the book, I'm excited!
#litsyclassics
Hey everyone! Don't forget the awesome @Sarah83 and I are hosting the classics challenge starting tomorrow.
Remember to include #maylovesclassics to be in with a chance of winning some bookish goodies!
Today's book mail.
The Jemisin's were only £2 each on Amazon so I couldn't resist finishing the collection!
Book 2! I can't wait to see what happens next in this space opera series. My heart was a bit broken by the first book so let's see if the men behind James S A Corey can fix it!
This totally blew my mind. I did not want to put this down and it certainly kept me gripped. @Foxyfictionista you were right when you said I'd love it!
Hello all #agathachristieclub readers and all who love Christie!
Has anyone listened to this month's Christie read? I'm reading the paperback this month and enjoying it, but so far Roger Ackroyd is my favourite this year.
What do you all think?
Hello all Agatha Christie fans out there especially all members of the #agathachristieclub I hope you are all happy and well!
I'm sorry I fell of the radar for a while but life intervened, grrr. Anyway, I'm back and posting so please still tag me as you read along with the current monthly read. More updated info coming up later today so please keep a look out!
Hello everyone!
Please join @Sarah83 and I for the May #litsyclassics photo challenge!
There is also a great giveaway for participants :)
Take a look at @sarah83 feed for more information
Can't wait to get started on this!!! I love Charlie Parker :)
I'm struggling with this one. I found The Dry to be instantly engaging but this is really boring and the characters are so uninteresting to me 140 pages in. I shall keep going as I hope it will pick up!
What a wonderful surprise! @Sarah83 sent my daughter and I great care package all the way from Germany. The wall decoration is already hanging and Rose is busy eating her PomBears while wearing an owl sticker. After her snack we shall sit and read this great looking book. What a lucky pair we are. Thank you for your generosity Sarah x
I went on to my Goodreads account today and this happened. All of my books have disappeared!!!
Has anyone else had this problem? I've emailed them and am awaiting a response, so frustrating!
Today's read...only a few pages in and I'm mesmerized. I have never read anything quite like this.
I've been taking my time with this one as I don't like to read short stories all in one go. I love Jen Campbell's style and how quirky and well written her stories are. You can tell this is a woman immersed in fairy tales and the art of story telling. Very nicely done!

I hope to get started on this month's #agathachristieclub read today. I picked this copy up yesterday at the second hand book shop, so let's get going with our fifth Poirot. I've heard mixed things about this one so we shall see!
I had heard lots about this book so requested it on #netgalley . Regardless of what I had heard, this was a real surprise in a positive way! I read it over two sleepless nights and found it fast and easy to read all the while Quatro keeps you on your toes with her nonlinear style. If you enjoy stories about marriage and relationships you should try this, for sure.
Thank you #natgalley for the opportunity to review this book.
Baby is out walking with her Nonno and I'm trying out my new reading specs with Pachinko. It's taking me a while to read but I'm really enjoying it!
Just a sample of Selznick's drawings of Rose from Wonderstruck.
This is a touching story of two linked narratives one told in pictures and the other in words. I took this photo as I enjoyed how Selznick depicts Deaf culture and the experiences of two deaf characters and I actually took time to read the acknowledgments!
As always, Selznick has created an engaging and beautiful book. I think this is my favourite of his so far.
Loved it.
Waiting for my friend for food and a catch up but first some Mr Penumbra!
I need some Hygge in my life. I'm not usually one for lifestyle books, but this was too cute to resist.
Next up...
I enjoy Jen Campbell's Booktube vlogs and have heard her interviewed but this is my first time reading her work.
Also, it must be a record as this is book 16 for me this month! That hasn't happened since I studied English and American Lit at uni.
I really enjoyed this story of an awkward, painfully honest man who happened to commit a very meaningless and pointless murder. You can't help but dislike the MC but I liked the simplicity of the sentences which is probably down to the translation too. This edition has some crazy weird illustrations too that added to the discomfort of Camus story.
Today's reading begins with my new Folio Society edition of The Outsider. I thought it needed a little colour so chose my Oz bookmark to brighten things up!

After a strong start this came somewhere between a pan and so-so for me. In this book Frankenstein becomes both monster and creator combined and I am interested to read what others make of the ending. I could see where the author was trying to go but I don't feel the book hung together well with it's great start, long drawn out middle and rushed ending. Overall, interesting in parts but there were too many plot holes for me.
This has me a little frustrated. Solnit's strongest essays are those giving a literary critique of Woolf and Sontag. I feel her work is clearer when she has something concrete to base her ideas on. Some essays skimmed issues & felt superficial to me, I wanted her to go deeper and make further comment rather than just mentioning injustices that had made the news. Solnit seemed very distant in these essays & I have finished it with mixed feelings.
I knew nothing about Roxane Gay before starting this yesterday but having just heard her section on Caitlin Moran's brand of feminism...I think I'm her new number one fan. I've struggled to find books about feminism that don't resort to lame humour or superficial lists of statistics. So far I'm really enjoying this. It's a shame this isn't narrated by Gay as I'd love to hear her tell it.
Another volume of Paper Girls completed. This has certainly been a graphic novel month for me. I'm really enjoying this fast paced time travel series and it provides a more easy going reading experience compared to my usual reads. Looking forward to the next collection!
Oh how I love this series and it's all over for now! Volume 8 was certainly the hardest to read but I miss it already. The characters and settings are great but now I have an age to wait until the next volume...
Thanks for the tag @sarah83

My latest Mary Beard 😊 can't wait to get started on this, just a couple of others to finish first...or will I bother? 😂
I love this Graphic Novel collection from Image. The characters continue chasing round the galaxy on various adventures risking life and limb. This little guy Ghüs has just joined the adventure. Love this bookplate of him with his stack of books 😍
#agathachristieclub
This is my favourite on our chronological journey, so far! I enjoyed the 'twist' and the reveal seemed much darker than the previous books. Perhaps I enjoyed it as Hastings wasn't the narrator? I guessed the murderer this time about three chapters from the end but only because everyone else had been discounted 😂
I'd also recommend this narration by Hugh Fraser. His voice is very well suited!
I caved in and finally bought this because of all the #litsylove 😊 It's enormous!
Calling all Agatha Christie fans #agathachristieclub
Follow the link for a great episode of the World Book Club podcast based on Murder on the Orient Express and other works of the wonderful Christie.
A great listen 😊

Best book of the year, so far! Everyone should read this. Beard is so intelligent and accessible that I feel so much more informed about women and the classics...and it's a tiny book. I'm going to revisit the classics based on these essays. So many interesting points that I don't have space to list them. Read the book, it's fantastic!
This morning's read is proving very interesting. This little gem of a book includes two lectures given by Mary Beard in 2014 and 2017. I have heard really good things about her other works but this is her first book for me. So far her writing is engaging and informative. This is a woman who knows her stuff!
This has left me so frustrated, I think I was expecting great things and it fell flat for me at the end. I enjoyed the first third, particularly the setting of the war torn city but the rest did very little for me. I fear I'm in the minority here 😬
I started this #arc last night courtesy of #netgalley
So far, so good. I'm a huge fan of the original story and this take is interesting and well written. I'm about 27% through and have a long car journey as a passenger tonight, so hope to get through to the end 😊
Just started this month's #agathachristieclub read 😊 so far so good!
I'm listening on audio as I have lots of jobs to do today, so am pottering with Agatha 😍
Such a wonderful surprise arrived this morning. My dear friend @sarah83 sent me these gorgeous bookish new year gifts! 😊 I'm sorry for the poor photos but you can see a Folio edition of The Warden by Trollope (with endpaper map) with some licorice in the shape of little books 😍, The Waves by Woolf and a book of Trollope quotations. Also there are two postcards from Rothenburg and Bredevoort. I'm so happy. Thank you Sarah xx
Book one toward my #Litsyclassics challenge is complete 😊
For a slender book I found this one took a while to get through because of Behn's writing style. It's the story of slavery, betrayal and love and has such a terribly sad ending. I've read some reviews that consider Behn to have suspect views on race and slavery but this was written in 17th century so I would expect her perspective to reflect that. Perhaps I'm in the minority?
