The Judgment of Richard Richter
The Judgment of Richard Richter | Igor Stiks
7 posts | 3 read | 5 to read
In this gripping, war-torn epic novel, author Igor tiks, a nominee for the IMPAC Dublin Award, tells the story of a celebrated writer who travels to Sarajevo to unearth devastating family secrets and the lies that have defined his life. Author Richard Richters mother and father were always phantoms, both parents having died by the time he was four. His life, now at a crossroads, has been a jumble of invention, elusive memories, and handed-down stories. But when Richard finds his mothers hidden notebook, written by her during World War II, he discovers a confession that was never meant to be read by anyoneleast of all, her son. ,p>Richards quest for the truth about his life leads him to an embattled Sarajevo. In the chaos of the besieged city, he discovers something more: a transformative romance and unexpected new friendships that will change the course of his search. But fate has been playing with all of them. And just as fate determines the lives of the characters in his novel, a betrayal reaching back half a century has yet to loosen its gripon Richard, on everyone he has come to love, and on those he has no choice but to try to forgive.

Haven‘t done one of these in a while, so...
1. Everything!
2. Buyer at a hospital (I help get in all the stuff patients need... including butt cheek tape & frozen poop)
3. Not likely 🤣
4. In about 10 years, when you think the moment is right to kiss that guy? It is - kiss him 💋
5. ✅

TheEllieMo Well, if no one else will, I‘ll do it. Frozen poop? 5y
Sweettartlaura @TheEllieMo @Texreader @julesG 🤣! Frozen poop... is used to treat certain GI/digestive issues. If you have a condition/s that makes “going” difficult for you - either irregular, or constant, etc. - one of the treatments is to insert “healthy” fecal matter into your gut via surgery, to reconstitute the bacteria in your intestines, thus regulating your “going”. So... 5y
Sweettartlaura ... there is at least one company that collects & tests poop for its health/bacteria; then sells it to medical facilities. They freeze it for storage & shipping. And now you know 💁🏻‍♀️😉🤣 5y
julesG Aaaah, feces transplants. Sadly still considered voodoo/witchcraft in some areas. My friends have been considering this for their autistic son, but don't want him to go through surgery. 5y
Sweettartlaura @julesG I have heard - but haven‘t yet had to purchase 😜 - that it‘s also in a powder/capsule form, so no surgery required. Not sure if different cases call for different methods. But it‘s worth your friends asking about to avoid surgery. Good luck to them all! 5y
julesG Thanks! I'll pass this on. 5y

I terribly dislike the writing style of this author. First person present tense telling about past events, with endless personal grievous foreshadowing in at least every paragraph, if not sentence (see sample above). The prose is condescending and pompous. So want to bail but the premise is fascinating and I'm hoping for a miraculous turnaround in the manner of his storytelling. I'll let ya know.

Sace It does seem like a good premise! I hope it gets better. 7y

My pick for the Amazon Prime Kindle book for August. Anyone else pick this one?

TheBookStacker I picked this one as well! 👍 7y
DebinHawaii I haven't looked at them yet! 😀 7y
Texreader @TheBookStacker @DebinHawaii I wasn't real thrilled with the choices. But this one came closest to my fave genre and does look good. The blurb here on Litsy worries me by how it describes the writing style. Not my thing. I get to my kindle books pretty quickly (I read it when I can't sleep) so I should have an opinion on this one pretty soon. 7y

Pickpick

4⭐ This is a work of true literary fiction, in the style of Dostoevsky, with long descriptive sentences, which often contemplate on the ideas of fate, war, destiny, and identity. It is not a book for everyone, but I greatly enjoyed it. Full review on Goodreads (MayginReads) and my blog (https://diversifyingperspective.wordpress.com). It's an August Kindle First pick & free for Prime members or $1.99 for non-members.
