Detective Inspector Vincent Ruiz doesn't know who wants him dead. He has no recollection of the firefight that landed him in the Thames, covered in his own blood and that of at least two other people. A photo of missing child Mickey Carlyle is found in his pocket--but Carlyle's killer is already in jail. And Ruiz is the detective who put him there. Accused of faking amnesia, Ruiz reaches out to psychologist Joe O'Loughlin to help him unearth his memory and clear his name. Together they battle against an internal affairs investigator convinced Ruiz is hiding the truth, and a ruthless criminal who claims Ruiz has something of his that can't be replaced. As Ruiz's memories begin to resurface, they offer tantalizing glimpses at a shocking discovery.

This had a great storyline but it was soooo slow. I don‘t know if it‘s because of how it‘s written or because of the narrator. #SeriesLove2023 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView

TheSpineView Great job for finishing despite being lackluster. 1y

I finally made it out of the Q1 #PromptMaze! It took a bit but was pretty fun. Thanks, @TheAromaofBooks for creating this, it‘s such fun!!

TheAromaofBooks Nice!!! I'm on my second round of Q1, but have been stranded in Q2 ever since I started. I've been through over half the blocks - some more than once - and still can't get out!! 😂 2y
janeycanuck @TheAromaofBooks I‘m in a loop on Q2 right now… I have faith I‘ll get out soon 😛 2y

“DI Vincent Ruiz can‘t remember how he got to the hospital. He was found floating in the Thames with a gunshot wound in his leg and a picture of missing child Mickey Carlyle in his pocket. But Mickey‘s killer is already in jail. Now, accused of faking amnesia and under investigation, Ruiz reaches out to psychologist Joseph O‘Loughlin to help him unlock his memory, clear his name, and solve this ominous puzzle.”

Loved it! I have wanted to read the Joe O‘Loughlin series for a long time and the first two books haven‘t disappointed! DI Ruiz is a great character, well written and complex. Loved this book and the storyline.

Pickpick

A detective awakes in hospital, fished from the Thames with a gunshot to the leg and no memory of the proceeding weeks, but a certainty that he was investigating a missing school girl, a case that he gained a conviction for years before. For a book with a clichéd starting point - amnesia – it surprised in its interesting characters and its twists; like the protagonist when you think you understand what is happening a new mystery presents itself.

Started to read this and had a moment where I realised, am I reading aSherlock Holmes story from the viewpoint of Inspector Lestrade? And doing some investigation the answer is yes; Robotham‘s normal character is O‘Loughlin the psychologist with a mind like a steel trap who in this story is much more a supporting character to the slower stolid detective Ruiz? At a third in very enjoyable

TheAromaofBooks Despite a few issues, I have a lot of love for this series. 5y

jillrhudy Where do these hashtags come from and how do you know what they mean? 6y
EadieB #jillhudy if you look on the bottom of the home screen and use the spyglass between the home and the plus sign, you can search different hashtags and see other posts about the same subject of the hashtag. The people who are tagged have put out calendars with daily words monthly. 6y
Billypar Thanks @EadieB ! @jillrhudy I tagged you in another comment just now with more information about the challenge. But if you want to see the #NoFemmeber list, if you go to my page it's about 12 posts back. I'll be reposting it soon also! 6y
