A new epic saga begins... Jael Furyck has had a sword in her hand since she was 10-years-old. Her freedom was assured by her father, King Ranuf of Brekka, but he is dead, his crown stolen by his ambitious brother, Lothar, who has married her off and taken her away from everything she loves: her home, her family, and Aleksander Lehr, her childhood friend and lover. Married her off to the King of Oss drunken son and heir, Eadmund Skalleson. Eadmund is a ruined shell of a man, broken since the death of his wife seven years before, but now he must find a way to regain his fathers trust, and quickly, before he brings back his dangerous and vengeful brother, Ivaar, to replace him. To do that Eadmund is going to need Jaels help, but helping him is the last thing on her mind. Jael is furious and determined to ignore her new husband, and instead fight and claw her way back to Brekka, and the life that once belonged to her. But she has a habit of making enemies, and there is more than one person on the island of Oss plotting to destroy her. Jaels grandmother, Edela, a Tuuran dreamer, sees another threat to her safety; an old, evil darkness that is stalking her on Oss. A girl with a scorched face and an ominous voice haunts her dreams, warning her of horrors to come. She must race to Tuura with Aleksanders help, to uncover the answers to her mysterious visions, to thread together all the clues, before its too late. But in Tuura, they like to keep their secrets hidden, and Jael Furyck and her importance to all the kingdoms of Osterland is their most closely guarded secret of all. The Tuuran elders will stop at nothing to protect the prophecy... Winters Fury weaves together a rich tapestry of characters and kingdoms, swords and warriors, dark magic and mystery, which will leave you wanting more.

Jael Furyck doesn‘t want a husband. Eadmund Skalleson doesn‘t want another wife. As the rival kings scheme, an ancient darkness emerges from the shadows threatening to destroy Jael, Eadmund, and everyone they love.

This was a pretty good story. A little longer than I expected it to be. I may eventually continue the series.

I happened upon this book as I was looking for something to read between book deliveries. I was thinking it would be a mediocre read, but I was wrong. I was absolutely sucked into this book! I loved the characters, the plot and the fact that the protagonist was a female bad a$$. I did get a little annoyed with Eadmund but I‘m hoping he develops more in book two. Highly recommend this book!
