Didn‘t love it. My book club picked it (we‘re all in South Philly), and basically none of us had anything positive to say when we “got together” (Zoom) to go over it! Even my cat, Henry, looks annoyed! The only fun part is that it is based on Philly/South Jersey, and I knew what they were referencing! That‘s it. 5/10

If you are looking for something different, there is no doubt that Love May Fail will deliver. There is nothing conventional about this story and I guess it is kind of refreshing. Love May Fail won‘t be for everyone since it has a lot of trigger warnings for darker themes, adult content and swearing, but I‘m sure the right person will appreciate the brutal honesty and blunt, raw and ‘out there‘ feel of it all.

Eighties hair band loving Jersey girl and pornographer's wife, Portia Kane, sets out on a mission. Not a literary masterpiece by any means, but a fast-paced feel good novel. We all need happy endings sometimes and Quick delivers. Too much about Motley Crue though.

I have loved everything I've read by Matthew Quick. This one just didn't do it for me. The story drags on forever then changes the plot half way through. The end rushes to knit everything together. It was just missing something.

If I try to summarize this book to get someone to want to read it, it just sounds horribly depressing but through the depressing story is a journey I'm glad I took with these characters.

I enjoyed this - the dogs, the paper aeroplanes, the 80s revisited, a five year old covering Bon Jovi and the idea that while life throws you curveballs, you need to hold on to your spark, that can help ignite the spark in others, getting them to want to go on and do great or just live
