3✨ My ten year old niece recommended this to me. I can see how it would be popular with her age group. It is a short read and has a historic event. While this is a work of fiction it portrays the Japan tsunami along with emotion, and sounds that people would have experienced at that time. As a science teacher that teaches this I‘m not impressed on a scientific level of tsunamis, but as a story it‘s good.

This HF book “ I survived” would be great for Storytelling. This book is about the Japanese Tsunami that took place in 2011. Ben is the main character in this book and is separated from his family from the terrible tsunami. Ben is now alone and must try and survive one of the most biggest natural disasters of all time.

We took my daughter to the Connecticut Children's Book Fair at UCONN and heard Lauren Tarshis speak. She is the author of the I Survived series which both of my children have enjoyed. Her talk was very inspirational to the kids (and adults) in the audience as she spoke of overcoming difficulties in her early reading life and in her first attempts at writing. My daughter got a kick out of meeting her and getting a few books signed.

This was another great entry in the I Survived series. While certain plot points seemed a bit unlikely, the story was enjoyable and made me want to keep reading to see what happens. I think this is a great series for reluctant readers who have an interest in either natural disasters or war.
