Mr. Tiger Goes Wild is a MF book written and illustrated by Peter Brown. It won the Boston Globe-Horn Award which is one of the most prestigious honors in literature. Mr. Tiger is tired of being like everyone else, so he decides to change. This is a good RA for any classroom to show kids it is okay to stand out and be themselves. We Are Growing! is a MF book written by Laurie Keller with the help of Mo Willems. It won the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award for the most distinguished American book for beginning readers. It is about 8 friends who are growing up fast in many different ways! I thought it was funny and really cute! This would be fun for a younger class to do a RT to practice fluency with the short text. #ucflae3414f17

Night of the Living Worms is a MF book written and illustrated by Dave Coverly. The book is a Sunshine State Young Readers book this year. This book is about a bird who can‘t live up to his brother! I love the illustrations in this book and how it uses just black. The little bird is just so funny with everything! I would use this as an IR. #ucflae3414f17

Goggles! Is a RF book written and illustrated by Ezra Jack Keats. The book is a Caldecott honor and is about the two boys who find goggles. These bigger boys approach them and try to take them away. The brave dog takes them and runs away. They all meet in their secret location and are able to keep the goggles! The book promotes friendship and the importance of not bullying. #ucflae3414f17

The Girl Who Drank the Moon is a MF book written by Kelly Barnhill. It is a Newbery Award winner and would be a great LC in the classroom. As soon as I picked up the book I couldn‘t put it down! A witch accidentally feeds a baby moonlight and she gets magic that is hidden deep within her. She later needs to protect people even if it goes against what she‘s been taught. #ucflae3414f17

The One and Only Ivan is a MF book written by Katherine Applegate. It is a Newbery Award winner and is a great book for SR in the classroom. I absolutely love the way the book is written. It is based on a true story and written from the view of the gorilla. Ivan doesn‘t really think much about his living situation until Ruby comes along. #ucflae3413f17

DrSpalding I agree with the idea of utilizing this for shared reading and really love that you used the Florida Reads website. Nice work. Of course 8.3 works so well with the idea of shared reading and positive thinking is something that comes along with the theme of the book. 7y

Falling Up is a collection of poems and drawings by Shel Silverstein and is an ALA Booklist Award winner. I picked this poem as one to share because I think everyone can relate! I think all scales would tell us to eat some pancakes! This book would be great for teachers to demonstrate choral reading. Students can pick poems to practice and perform in front of classmates and build language skills. #ucflae3414f17

Whether it‘s society setting unrealistic expectations or your pants not fitting, it‘s always something with weight! This poem makes it super funny and relatable. 7y

This is a NF book about the dinosaur Stegosaurus. It is written by Elaine Landau and comes from a whole series about dinosaurs. It talks about what they eat, where they lived, and how they became extinct. I turkey found this book interesting because I knew nothing about this specific dinosaur. I think this would be a good book for a RA. #ucflae3414f17

laurie_jayy Just added this to my book list because I would love to know more about the man whose books I read growing up! The front cover even captured my attention. I think having students underline or highlight keys words is a great strategy! They can also highlight things they‘re confused about so they can ask question about them later on! :) 7y

Wonder is RF book written by R.J. Palacio. I think this would be a great IR book for anyone. I really enjoyed reading this book and going to watch the movie!! This book is about a little boy, Auggie, who is born with a facial difference and so many people judge him. He is going to be mainstreamed and is worried about what might happen. It was so touching and I think everyone should agree that people need to choose kind. #ucflae3413f17

Sparky! Is a RF book written by Jenny Offill and illustrated by Chris Appelhans. It won the Charlotte Zolotow Award for the best picture book text published. The book is about a little girl who wants a pet and her mom said it needs to be low maintenance, so she gets a sloth mailed to her. She tries to teach him tricks and impress her friend. I adore this book and the illustrations! The colors just make it so beautiful. #ucflae3414f17

I am Helen Keller is a B written by Brad Meltzer and illustrated by Christopher Eliopoulos. This book comes from the best seller series of Ordinary People Change the World. I absolutely adore these books and enjoy reading them! I think this would be a good RA book to share with students to learn about important people in history. I love how kid friendly this book is about how Helen Keller grew up and overcame so many obstacles. #ucflae3414f17

Last Stop on Market Street is a RF book written by Matt De La Peña and illustrated by Christian Robinson. It is a Newbery Medal winner, Caldecott Honor, Coretta Scott King Honor, and a SSYRA Jr. book for 2016-2017. It is about a little boy and his grandmother going through the city and riding the city bus. He is always asking questions and the grandmother has the best answers for him. #ucflae3414f17

The Man Who Walked Between The Towers is a Biography written by Mordicai Gerstein. This book is a Caldecott winner and is about a man named Philippe who walked between the towers in NYC. Him and his friends snuck up there in the middle of the night and got the line ready to walk across. He was walking when people noticed him and the police tried to arrest him. When he was done he walked off. This is a good RA book for any classroom. #ucflae3414f17

Grace for President is a RF picture book. It is a great book for young readers to help them understand the election process. I think it is great for a readers theater in a classroom. Having students understand our history is also very important and to recognize what has happened in the past. I would love to add this book to my classroom library. #ucflae3414f17

This is a TL story told from the view of the wolf. This was the first time reading this book and I absolutely loved it! I loved how the wolf was the one telling the story and how everything was just a misunderstanding, he was only trying to get some sugar. I think this would be a great book for storytelling. #ucflae3414f17

I Survived is a New York Time Bestselling Series. This particular book is about the Japanese Tsunami that happened in 2011. This book is HF and is seen in a lot of school today. A little boy and his family go to Japan to visit their uncle. A few days in an earthquake hits and is later followed by a tsunami. The little boy is separated from his family, but is later reunited. This helps children understand what people went through. #ucflae3414f17

Ada Twist, Scientist is a SF book. It is about a little girl who is so curious about the world around her and she is always asking questions and doing science experiments. I think this book is a great RA so teachers can show it is important to ask questions and learn about what is happening around you. I love that at the end the parents and brother embrace her and want to help her learn as much as she can. #ucflae3414f17

One Crazy Summer is a HF that takes place in the 1960s. It is a Newbery Honor, a Scott O‘dell Award for HF, a Coretta Scott King Award winner, and a National Book Award Finalist. Three sister are sent to California to visit their estranged mother. She sends them to a Day camp run by the Black Panther Party. The girls connect with the mother on the last day at a rally and they finally understand where she comes from and why she left. #ucflae3414f17
