This is out of my area of expertise. Any librarians, teachers, or folks with general children's books knowledge that can help? She's teaching 5th grade, but many of her students have learning disabilities so she said somewhere in the 3rd-5th range could work well. The library at the school she's at doesn't have many contemporary options so we're hoping to bulk up her classroom library in the hopes of getting kiddos excited about reading! ❤️

Bookwormjillk My kids really liked the I Survived series. My son was slow to learn to read, and those were the first books that really made him want to try. 2y
j.rye I‘ll tag some of my 9 year old‘s favorites 2y

j.rye Right now is a great time to buy from scholastic (book fair season). I can share our school‘s code to get the special pricing. They‘ll deliver to an address of your choosing! 2y
EmberIvyRose My kids loved the DogMan books, Captain Underpants, The Bad Guys. My older son had difficulty with reading initially and anything that was more of a graphic novel was less intimidating to him.

MaureenMc I second The Bad Guys series. Also: 2y
ChaoticMissAdventures I love Jacqueline Woodson for her younger kids - The Day You Begin, for the 5th graders 2y
Gissy @LibrarianRyan can give you excellent recommendations. She is always posting amazing children‘s book reviews 2y
LibrarianRyan @Gissy Thank you Gissy. so all exccelent suggestions so far. Let me add some. Anything from Rick Riordian Presents. The books not written by him, but for his imprint are all fantastic, and each series or book is written by own voices afuthors. So like Race the Sun, is written by an indigious author. Tristan Strong punches a hole in the sky - follows african american folk tales. Etc. Always a great starting point. Also anything by the ⬇ 2y
LibrarianRyan following authors - Reina Telgemier, Stuart Gibbs, Avi, Max Brailler, Keeper of lost cites (they are big (size wise)). The wings of fire books. Anything by Chris Grabinstein, Alan Gatz, Big Nate, Who Is series, Kate DiCammilo, Gordon Korman, etc. Also consider GN for reluctant readers. there are so many good ones. New Kid, Emmie and Friends, Kattie the cat sitter, wingbearer, Real Friends, and Kelly Yang.

I know this is a lot, but it will ⬇

LibrarianRyan Grow. If you are interested, I can send your friend a box of book for her class. I am getting ready to weed my library some and I always save my “read“ books for when a teacher or school or library needs them. If interested just email me at MissRyanAF@gmail.com 2y
swishandflick @LibrarianRyan Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I'm gonna double check with her before I share her address but I can't imagine that she'll pass that up so I'll email you soon! ❤️ 2y

Part of my sad #classroomlibrary that isn‘t getting checked out because of COVID restrictions. I love reading with students and having them read in class, and it just isn‘t the same this year.

TheBookHippie I agree. It‘s one of the saddest parts. 4y
BennettBookworm I couldn‘t agree more with you both @TheBookHippie ! 4y

I love spending time in this 6th grade classroom with my students... the teachers library is huge (over 1,000 books) and is constantly encouraging her students to read!!! 🤓
