Not quite knocked up Like everyone in New York media, editor Liz Buckley runs on cupcakes, caffeine and cocktails. But at thirty-one, she's plateaued at Paddy Cakes, a glossy baby magazine that flogs thousand-dollar strollers to entitled, hypercompetitive spawn-havers. Liz has spent years working a gazillion hours a week picking up the slack for coworkers with kids, and she's tired of it. So one day when her stress-related nausea is mistaken for morning sickness by her bossesboom! Liz is promoted to the mommy track. She decides to run with it and plans to use her paid time off to figure out her life: work, love and otherwise. It'll be her "meternity" leave. By day, Liz rocks a foam-rubber belly under fab maternity outfits. By night, she dumps the bump for karaoke nights and boozy dinners out. But how long can she keep up her charadeand hide it from the guy who might just be The One? As her "due date" approaches, Liz is exhaustedand exhilaratedby the ruse, the guilt and the feelings brought on by a totally fictional belly-tenantabout happiness, success, family and the nature of love.

Liz has worked at a baby magazine for a decade and feels a bit stuck. She isn‘t advancing the way she wanted and feels she‘s doing the work of those going out on maternity leave or caring for kids. Then she suddenly finds herself faking a pregnancy to try to change her situation. I wasn‘t sure about this one at first, but I liked the characters and it turned out to be fun.

Kerrbearlib I really liked this book! 2y

Since I started reading this on the beach, I'm transported back there whenever I pick it up. I'm going to be sad to finish this because of that!

Up and out early this morning for some final reading on the beach before my afternoon flight home. Such an incredible vacation and productive reading trip. I hope it's not too long until my next one!!

Kaylamburson Thanks so much, @Cinfhen! I feel like all of my Litsy posts will be boring after this week, Haha. 8y

As it's the last full day of my vacation, I can't help but think extending this into a "Meternity" would be the right thing to do, haha.

A fun and rompy read with a real, hard-hitting question at its core... How can women have it all and still have time for themselves???

My book haul from yesterday... Is bad that I am hoping for a big show storm soon so I can crawl under a blanket and into these beauties???

BookishMarginalia Not at all! Fingers crossed! 8y

Found the perfect book to balance out the sadness of Mischling. It is making me laugh so hard. Do you think my friends would forgive me if I faked a pregnancy to get some time off? I posed the question on twitter @ kendallmorganhall but so far no one has weighed in 😊

Fresh and fun...especially if you are single and childless! ;-) If you dug The Assistants, you'll likely dig this!

Kaylamburson Just starting this now, but I LOVED The Assistants. Hopefully I love this one, too. 8y

Which book should I binge read tomorrow for #Readathon?!

Texasblues The Underground Railroad! 9y
TeaStories I am so jealous you have Still Life with Tornado! King is my favorite author and I can't wait to get a copy of it! 9y
KariAnderson I haven't read any of these but they all look like they need to be added to my TBR list. 9y

Soscha I'm so jealous of that stack! I'd go with Underground Railroad though. 9y
Kaylamburson Two votes for The Underground Railroad and one for Still Life with Tornado! I definitely have to read this whole stack eventually. There are definitely perks working in publishing 😊 9y
MMFinck I adore Emma Straub. Not fast reads but reliably observant and very good. 9y
Mrscastro I have been wanting to read Keep Me Posted! That looks like a great stack! 😊📚 8y
