The Wonder | Emma Donoghue

I've had this ARC since ALA... A young girl in 1950s Ireland is lauded as a miracle, as she has eaten nothing in four months, yet lives. Hoax? Religious miracle? A practical English nurse is sent to find out, and becomes entangled in the story herself. Different but a page turner for me!

MrBook Interesting.... Meeting her in a couple weeks 😁👍🏻. 8y

It took me a bit to get going with the narrative voice and tone but Then I couldn't turn pages fast enough to find out what really happened when a teenage girl was brutally assaulted... and her memories of the night taken away.

MrBook Nice review! 8y
BlogginBoutBooks I read a little of this and then put it down. Good to know it gets better. I'll give it another go. 8y

Tore through this #BOTM pick this morning! Speedy suspense with a lot of twists, turns and unreliable narrators. Big fun! Thanks for the pick, @Liberty !

Unputdownable! I love a good survival story, and then coupled with "what happens after" and the twist of will-they-won't-they... I was hooked! Caution: do NOT read if you have a plane flight coming up! So good!

EvieBee So glad you liked this one. Got it on sale today and can't wait to read it! 7y

Sounds like a sweet young adult summer romance novel... But it's so much more. Love, mental illness, family tensions, new friends, voices, and overcoming who you think you are, set against the Jersey boardwalk. Couldn't put it down... Great for older YAs!

Byrne is rapidly becoming one of my (not quite) Regency romance authors! Unique, so-not-cookie-cutter heroines, damaged and dangerous alpha males, spicy romance and a happy ending each time! I loved all three in this series - this one included! #biblioweekend

A tough read, but an important inclusion into the Holocaust genre, focusing on a set of twins that became part of Mengele's "zoo". The tone and language made this a slooooow read for me, and I struggled with getting through it, but I'm glad I did. #biblioweekend

Really, really sweet novel about gamers, gaming, geek love, and falling for someone you didn't expect. Though technically adult, this would also be a super LGBTQ young adult recommendation - sexy times are "off stage". Though I didn't understand every word as a nongamer, I was charmed. ??#biblioweekend

I've been a fan of the Monkeewrench novels since the beginning - so glad to get a new one! Another great mystery, mixing a mystery from the past with current-day murder. I recommend this whole series for anyone who likes quirky characters, technology, and crime solving in their novels. :-)

Readable, accessible and fast, but I always struggle when I don't have a character to root for, or any empathy for the characters at all! What a bunch of nutters! Loved the setting and the prose though!

MrBook I feel the same way about a read regarding characters. Great review 😊👍🏻! 8y

This book ruined me for all other books for almost a week... I can't stop thinking about it. No words for how twisted and powerful and thought-provoking and amazing this dark, sad, hopeful story is..

MrBook I love it when a book won't leave me ☺️. 8y

This is my JAM! Chapters on my favorite 80s movies, laugh out loud funny writing, and some learning thrown in on marketing and movies today versus the 80s. Loved every chapter! Recommended if you are...if a certain age like me. :-)

Oh, I LOVED this. In modern times, a woman on the cusp of divorce goes home...and discovers the journals of her grandmother in 1924 Paris. Full of art, romance, longing, Parisian streets, family relations and love. And I loooooved it - a worthy follow up to her fantastic The Weird Sisters!

NatalieR Love your artwork! 🖌🇫🇷 8y

Marriage + bipolar disorder + family disfunction + the Hamptons = a strange summer. First half of the book was compelling and readable and engaging, but then... It felt like it got lost in trying to be spicy and edgy and highbrow. I wanted more development, more resolution. Super speedy beach read!

Protagonist Anna Pigeon is one of my longest standing literary friends, since her first appearance in Track of the Cat ('94). This latest, set in Acadia National Park, was a solid mystery (two, actually) but didn't feature enough of the park OR Anna! I think I still prefer her older titles...

This memoir read like fiction and was an absolute page turner! Hamilton details life with her first husband, who was diagnosed as bipolar during their marriage and turned her life upside down. Recommended!
