Time of Torment: A Charlie Parker Thriller
Time of Torment: A Charlie Parker Thriller | John Connolly
23 posts | 15 read | 11 to read
Dangerous and driven private investigator Charlie Parker returns in the latest gripping thriller of internationally bestselling author John Connolly s series, in which ungodly fears haunt a strange and isolated community. Jerome Burnel was once a hero. He intervened to prevent multiple killings, and in doing so destroyed himself. His life was torn apart. He was imprisoned, brutalized. But in his final days, with the hunters circling, he tells his story to private detective Charlie Parker. He speaks of the girl who was marked for death, but was saved; of the ones who tormented him, and an entity that hides in a ruined stockade. Parker is not like other men. He died, and was reborn. He is ready to wage war. Now he will descend upon a strange, isolated community called the Cut, and face down a force of men who rule by terror, intimidation, and murder. All in the name of the being they serve. All in the name of the Dead King."

Catching up on a few last reviews for June.

As this series progresses, the supernatural aspect starts to play a bigger part in the story. After 14 books, I'm still loving this series and Connolly always manages to make each book feel new and exciting.

I‘ve had so little time to read this week, which has made me even more miserable!! Finally finished this tonight and it was brilliant. This series gets better, mystery and supernatural - it‘s a great mix.
And Charlie, Angel and Louis are great characters.

Cathythoughts Sounds great ! You are flying it ! I must go back sometime... so many series , so little time 4y
TrishB @Cathythoughts definitely 😁 this is one of my favs though! 4y
MsMelissa I‘m with you on it being a tough week, with little time for reading. I hope you have time on the weekend 😊 4y

Wow. I think it is my favorite Charlie Parker book yet. I find it so hard to believe that they have not sold the movie options yet for any of these books. Unless they have and I just don't know. Strong, yet flawed characters. Violent but good usually comes out on top of evil. A little bit of the supernatural thrown in for good measure. This is the 14th book of the series with a new one coming out in July. Already pre-ordered!

The Charlie Parker series continues to grow and will soon be bigger than the world we now understand. Seeing so much more hints of "other worlds" and things best left I disturbed. But Parker isn't one for walking away, is he? Loved this instalment

This book is a twisted, dark psychological/supernatural horror thriller kinda mystery. That's a lot, I know, but it fits. Just when you thought you'd seen all the depravity there was to see - BAM! There was something new. I will never think about the hollers and hills quite the same. Not for the faint of heart or stomach.

LizzyM I think I am going to have to steer clear of this one - I am a scaredy-cat! 8y
Laura317 @LizzyM Yeah. It was flat-out terrifying! I'll probably have nightmares forever, but the storyline was A1. 8y

There is a character in this book that I am beginning to see, in my mind, as Strax from Doctor Who. This book is dark. Not my usual fare at all. Lots of profanity (not a fan) , and the characters are soooo twisted. I'm over 1/2 through it and loving every moment.

LauraBrook Well, since you mention Strax and Doctor Who, I want to read this one! 8y
Laura317 @LauraBrook It's just one character that reminded me of Strax. This book is DARK and TWISTED. But strangely, I dig it. 8y
LauraBrook I can handle twisted, but not always dark. Still, if there's anything remotely Whovian, I'll read anything. 💙 8y

About 1/3 through this thriller. It's easily one of the strangest things I've read. I guess I've led a sheltered book life. It's raw, gritty and more than a little freaky. So far so good! It's a NetGalley ARC.

I love Connolly's style. I love his characters. I love the scorched earth they leave behind them. But after 13 books, I really can't keep the finer details of the first 12 straight.

That being said... Can't wait for the next one!

Dammit... 13 books into this series, I need a concordance to keep track of who's who, & what happened when 😕
