The Black Angel
The Black Angel: A Charlie Parker Thriller | John Connolly
10 posts | 15 read | 11 to read
To those who have been forsaken, hell has no geography. The Black Angel begins with the disappearance of a young prostitute from one of New York City's seamiest neighborhoods. Like so many tormented souls before her, the girl's mother is inevitably drawn to Charlie Parker's doorstep desperate for redemption and revenge. Despite the danger that his chosen profession imposes on his wife and newborn daughter, Parker knows that the woman and her troubles cannot be ignored. As always, he is driven as much by the evil that simmers in the hidden honeycomb world as he is by the ties of friendship and blood. As Parker gets closer to the girl's captors, he discovers that her disappearance is linked to a church of bones in Eastern Europe, to the slaughter at a French monastery in 1944, and to the myth of an object known as the Black Angel -- an object considered by evil men to be beyond priceless. But the Black Angel is not a legend. It is real. It lives. It dreams. And the mystery of its existence may contain the secret of Parker's own origins.

#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

Probably one of my favorites in this series. 💚 Charlie Parker yet again finds himself in an impossible situation. I love the religious themes in this one. It adds an extra level of intrigue to the underlying mystery.

Oh my giddy aunt what a brilliantly fevered imagination must john connolly have that he can continue to create villains who make your skin crawl + have you looking over your shoulder late at night. Combining a myth from the bk of enoch & fallen angels returned with Charlie, Louis and angel hunting a missing girl. A collision is inevitable. These books are addictive and can't wait to read the next one soon but with all the lights in the house on!

TrishB It‘s an awesome series 👍🏻 4y
andrew61 @TrishB yes definitely a favourite now. 4y

I know im late to this series but gosh i can't put this one down. This may sound like a strange comparison but i loved the da vinci code for it's combination of mythology & page turning thrill, but and in this bk so far connolly has that same mythology with brilliant prose & characters who just burst out of the bk. I was always sceptical abt supernatural crime but this series is moving head and shoulders into something special. And what villains!

Cathythoughts Oh I need to get back to this series ... I think I‘m only on the 3d one .... lots of catching up. I see @TrishB is moving along in this series too. I‘m moving the next one up my TBR 4y
TrishB @andrew61 @Cathythoughts it gets better and better! The last one I read(I think 15?) was the best so far. Creepy crime novels with great characters 😁 (edited) 4y

Amazing 5th one in the series - finished last night in bed. Binged the first 4 last year and @Cathythoughts reminded me of them last week. Charlie Parker is a really brilliant MC and I love Angel and Louis.

It had angels and a lot of scenes in New York!

#TBRtemptation post 7! This is the fifth installment in the supernatural thriller Charlie Parker series. Reviewers say this is the darkest installment yet. A young woman disappears in New York City. Friendship and blood draw detective Charlie into the investigation. A church of bones in Eastern Europe, a 1944 French monastery's slaughter, and the myth of an object called the Black Angel, are linked to the case. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

GlassAsDiamonds So, I have to ask...: why "Do Not Put In Book Drop"? 7y
MrBook @GlassAsDiamonds Excellent question! Two reasons: one, it was a special donation to the library from the author; and two, it's a signed edition. We want it to be handed in in-person. 7y
GlassAsDiamonds Ha, thanks (the things you learn!!) 😊😊😊 (edited) 7y

This one took a little longer to get going than the others in the Charlie Parker series, but still a solid pick from me! Time to dive into the Christmas stash now!
