"I believe we are on the cusp of an African food revolution. There is a longing to try something that is actually new, not just re-spun, and African cuisines are filling that gap. It's the last continent of relatively unexplored food in the mainstream domain. For too long Africans have kept this incredible food a greedy secret." - Zoe Adjonyoh Ghanian food is always fun, always relaxed and always tasty! From Pan-roasted Cod with Grains of Paradise and Nkruma (Okra) Tempura to Coconut & Cassava Cake and Cubeb Spiced Shortbread, this is contemporary African food for simply everyone. If you're already familiar with good home-cooked Ghanaian food, you'll find new ways to incorporate typical flavours - such as plenty of fresh fish and seafood, hearty salads and spices with a kick. If you're new to it, you'll no doubt be surprised and delighted at the relative ease of cooking these tempting dishes. Most of the ingredients are easy to come by at supermarkets or local shops, and the recipes are super flexible - you can take the basic principles and adapt them easily to what you have available in your cupboard or fridge. Zoe's Ghana Kitchen will help you bring something truly exciting and flavour-packed to the kitchen. Get ready to bring African food to the masses.

I loved reading through this book and ended up making two recipes: mango & pineapple salad and veggie jollof rice. I‘m a big fan! (Full disclosure I‘m somehow out of paprika so the spice mixture probably isn‘t right.) I made enough for lunch the rest of the week so it‘s a relief that it‘s tasty! #FoodAndLit #Ghana

Texreader The rice looks delicious!! 10mo
Catsandbooks That's awesome! 🇬🇭 10mo
TheBookHippie I loved this cookbook! I was sad to return it to the library! 10mo

Despite the fact that I have a Midwestern palate and can barely tolerate jalapeno, I did find some #Ghana recipes I could enjoy.

Tatale (plantain pancakes), Three Bean Salad, Cocoyam and Sweet Potato Curry, Coconut Rice, Honey and Plantain Ginger Cake, and Spiced Cashews.

tpixie Yum! I love curry! That meal looks delicious! 10mo
batsy They all sound and look delicious. And once I start eating spiced cashews I'll probably never stop 😆 10mo

Texreader This is awesome!! I‘m so impressed! I‘ve been trying to find recipes I‘d like and struggling. I don‘t do spicy but not keen on a lot of flavors in the Ghana food traditions 10mo
Catsandbooks That looks so tasty!!! 👏🏼🇬🇭 10mo
Liz_M @batsy I'm hiding the cashews from myself in the fridge 😂 10mo
Liz_M @Texreader I like a restaurant mild coconut curry, but whenever I make curry it's not as good. I replaced all the “scotch bonnet“ peppers with jalapenos. The Three Bean salad is good -- not too many spices. And I like savory-sweet so I think the oniony-plantain pancakes are yummy. Maybe find some fish recipes? the ones in this cookbook do not seem to use the same spice set. (edited) 10mo

I‘m determined to do a better job of cooking from our #FoodAndLit countries this year!

TheBookHippie I got this one too!!!! 10mo
Bookwormjillk @TheBookHippie I love that she includes a playlist! 10mo
Texreader I need to do better myself. Ghana food however doesn‘t appeal to my palate at all. So…I may not start this month… 10mo

Bookwormjillk @Texreader I found some salads. I‘ll post my results. 10mo
Texreader @Bookwormjillk Thatd be awesome. I can do salads! 😊 10mo
Catsandbooks Last year was so stressful that I barely made anything for FoodandLit. Hopefully this year we will all be able to enjoy more cuisines! 10mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I've been garbage with the food portion of the challenge. I did partake in Chilean wine for November (& December), though. And there was the time I did a banana from Guatemala. 🤣 You're doing far better than I am. 10mo

Her food descriptions alone are worth picking up a copy. She does a great job of describing the places and regions in Ghana that she visits and the playlists are wonderful as well. Discovered a lot of new to me artists to enjoy. Like that she included a link for sourcing some of the ingredients also. I also like the chocolate avocado mousse…been eating a plain version so this was a nice variation to enjoy.

For #readblackwomen I‘ve decided to try and include my cookbook collection in my challenge. My cookbook collection is so white and I‘d like to change this up a bit. It‘s even worse when you look at the vegan cookbooks on offer. This podcast http://www.racistsandwich.com covers race in food culture really well and gives you lots to think about. I‘ll share any great recipes if I remember to take photos before I eat them.

Weaponxgirl I‘m also always up for cookbook recommendations, even better if they are veggie but I can normally adapt stuff 6y
Weaponxgirl @mreads I love her food! 6y

#diversespines books and food. I haven't cooked from this yet but the author is an amazing woman! She does activism and is very involved with her community in the uk.
There's a recipe in here using tinned corned beef I keep looking at to try alongside others obviously.
There's so many cookbooks and food memoirs by woc I wanted to use for this prompt such as Edna Lewis, madhur jaffrey and yet again maya Angelou.
