If you know me, you know I‘m an Austen fangirl and I love Pride and Prejudice. I fully expected to love this ‘remix‘ and I did. It‘s smart, funny, and very thoughtful... it‘s a retelling, but with realistically modern characters and a meaningful storyline. It‘s a very well done YA romance with lots of poetic prose. The narration by Elizabeth Acevedo is soooo good, too. She really brings it to life.

Had a great month of #readblackwomen The Color Purple and How It Went Down were my favorites.

My one-word review: Wow. This was my first time reading N.K. Jemisin, and I‘m glad I started here. Short stories are a great way to get a feel for an author‘s range of genres, styles, and themes. And Jemisin‘s got serious range! I love the mix of sci-fi, fantasy, and even foodie fic (is that a thing?). Her strong narrative voice pulls me in, and her haunting, thought-provoking stories stay with me.

I saw a few posts this month about this play which reminded me I had it on my shelves. It was truly excellent, and I‘d like to see a live performance.

My daughter has yet another snow day today (actually for ice). We‘ve had 4 now, which is very unusual for us (at least in recent years). I swear these kids are going to go into “summer slide” in March!

I‘m not going to try to speed read another book today so thought I‘d post my stats today. I read 8 books this month and had one bail that I hated. All were part of #readblackwomen and I really enjoyed taking part.
March is women‘s history month and captain marvel is coming out at the cinema so I‘m going to be catching up on her comics for then.
I‘m also looking forward to trying a buddy read of Carson McCullers with @ephemeralwaltz !

This book is AMAZING. Seriously, the best fantasy/sci-fi/post-apocalyptic book I have read in a long while. The world building is astounding, the writing is innovative, accessible, and gorgeous, the characters are fascinating, and the story is nonstop entertaining. I don‘t know why I waited so long, but I‘ve got the next one on hold now. I highly recommend the audio, read by one of my faves, Robin Miles.
