F*ck Feelings
F*ck Feelings: One Shrink's Practical Advice for Managing All Life's Impossible Problems | Michael Bennett, MD, Sarah Bennett
The only self-help book you'll ever need, from a psychiatrist and his comedy writer daughter, who will help you put aside your unrealistic wishes, stop trying to change things you can't change, and do the best with what you can controlthe first steps to managing all of life's impossible problems. Need to stop screwing up? Feel like you're under a loser's curse? Work with an ass? Want to clear your name or get justice, rescue an addicted person, get closure after childhood abuse, get a lover to commit, not ruin your kid? Although other self-help books claim to reveal the path to happiness, F*ck Feelings warns that convincing yourself that there is such a path will actually lead you to feel like a true failure. What the Bennetts can promise you is that you can manage any situation life throws at you if you can keep your sense of humor, bend your wishes to fit reality, restrain your feelings, manage bad behavior, and do what you think is right. Life is hard. It's not fair. Our feelings cloud our rationality, and we become tangled in our efforts to achieve the impossible or change the unchangeable. In this groundbreaking, entirely sensible, and funny book, the Bennetts open the shrinks' secret solution manual and show you how to find a new kind of freedom by working toward realistic goals and doing the best with what you can control. They address the most common problems Dr. Bennett's patients bring to his private practiceproblems with family, love, work, self-esteem, garden variety assholes, and moreand give you a script for going forward. With no-bullshit advice from a Harvard-educated shrink freed of all jargon and patronization by his smart-ass, comedy writer daughter,F*ck Feelings is the cut-to-the-chase therapy session you've been looking for.

One of the best things about this “anti-self help” book is that you don‘t necessarily have to read it in order. Some chapters, like ‘Fuck Parenting‘, might not have any relevance for someone without kids. I did read it cover to cover though and it‘s honest relatable, honest, witty and clever. Not to mention hilarious at times.

Fitting with my self help books with curse words in the title, this book got long at points but good advice. #audiobook

Centique I love Brave New World, it is such a mind blowing book. You might want a break between that and Fahrenheit 451 - only because they‘re both mind blowingly good future dystopias. But if two like that works for you, go for it! 🙌😁👌 6y
Readerann Good luck! I‘ve read 4 of your 6 selections. Great stack!👍 6y
Whimsical.Curiosity @Bindrosbookshelf @JamieArc @Christine now I'm even more excited! It was a gift so I don't know much about it. 6y
Whimsical.Curiosity @Centique @AshD16 I've always loved futuristic dystopians and these have been recommended so many times. I'm looking forward to both so much but I will probably space them out. Ever read The Giver? LOVE. 6y
Whimsical.Curiosity @Readerann ooh then I'm confident this should be a good stack! Good luck to you as well! 6y
Centique @Whimsical.Curiosity I‘ve only seen the movie! Must read the book ASAP 6y

A self help book for people who don't read self help books. The advice is practical, the humor pretty funny, and most of all it's informative. Despite the title the authors really do believe in feelings, just that they shouldn't control you.

This one just isn't for me. DNF at 16%. I'm disappointed; profanity and self-help seem right up my alley, but I'm bored and I've got my Feb #TBR to get through.
