Kicking off my 3rd 24hr-read-a-thone with my bestie with this book! So excited, she picked it out for me so let's see if she truly knows what I like to read.
Kicking off my 3rd 24hr-read-a-thone with my bestie with this book! So excited, she picked it out for me so let's see if she truly knows what I like to read.
I'm turning my copy of Night Circus into an art project. I even got a mini thermal printer to add pictures throughout to go with my annotations and notes.
My friend and I did a 24hr read-a-thon and these are the results. By far my favorite of them was A Strange and Stubborn Endurance. I absolutely cannot wait for the next one to come out! There was something about it that I found so charming and irresistible. I love how Vel and Cae's relationship transforms and grows over the course of the story.
There's nothing better than a collection of ghost stories and a cup of hot coco by the fire on a cold evening.
Talk about a chill-inducing first paragraph. Can't wait to get this one started for spooky season! I've heard such good things about it.
Spooky season is now well and truly upon us! I finished my first spooky read last night, The Dark Decent of Elizabeth Frankenstein and now I am moving on to a book I have been much anticipating, Cemetery Boys. Next on the docket is Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky and then Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado. Very excited for my spooky reads.
I absolutely adore Frankenstein, it is by far my favorite classic horror novel. It was my favorite book that I read in high school, and then during my junior year of college and the 200th anniversary of the book, I had the chance to write my own story inspired by the book. It has a very soft place in my heart. The Dark Decent of Elizabeth Frankenstein is a wonderful retelling of the story with a twist I honestly didn't see coming. I loved it!
I am so absolutely in love with this book. The way Morgenstern writes is so incredible, she has this way of stacking and twining and lacing story together to create plot lines that deal with the past present and future all at once. I love her characters with their depth and comexity and relatability. Everything about this book made my English major brain very happy. It's one of the few recently that I actually started annotating in.
I love my library job and I'm having so much fun! I got to make an awesome display that I am calling Secret Santa Books. Basically it's Blind Date With a Book Christmas edition. I picked the titles and made the descriptions and because I can't wrap to save my life my co-worker wrapped them. I'm hoping it goes well and that circulate because I had so much fun making it. I picked my own personal favs, some Great American Reads, and high rated ones.
I pre-ordered this about a year ago and have been on the edge of my seat excited about it since I finished TRC. Ronan is one of my favorite characters and I love Adam so much. This book wasn't what I was expecting but in the best ways possible. There's a perfect balance of keeping the familiarity of what we learned of Ronan's dream abilities in TRC while giving us all this new info. I also love all the relationship building for the Brothers Lynch
So I read this in preparation for Call Down the Hawk. It's a great short story and a great bridge between The Raven Cycle and the new Dreamer Trilogy. Definitely worth a read if you are as invested in Ronan and Adam as I am.
I'm loving this series! This one was a bit harder to get through because it's so long and so much happens but it is an enjoyable read (listen?). The audio is awesome, the narrator is just spot on.
Life update: so this past week has been crazy for me, I quit my retail job, started at a library as a circulation clerk, got accepted into grad school for my Master of Library Science, and started a coaching position for my high schools Color Guard. Lots of crazy stuff but I am so happy to be working in the field I want to go into finally! Such an exciting moment in my life and I just wanted to share.
So I read this not too long after reading Song of Achilles and I think it was really interesting to see two different author's perspectives on Achilles. While Miller seems to romantise the war and write something more akin to a love story, Barker isn't afraid to show the hideousness and gory details of the war. She doesn't pull any punches on her descriptions of sickness, injuries, and general (lack) if hygiene. I loved seeing the differences.
So... Was someone going to tell me that Stephen Chbosky was putting out a new book or was I just supposed to find that out while scrolling through my email?
I love Perks of Being a Wallflower with every part of my being, Chbosky's writing is incredible and I wasn't sure if I was ever going to get to read something by him again, let alone a horror novel by him. I'm ordering it on Amazon now and I can't wait for it to get here.
I absolutely adored this book. It made me sad to see the relationship issues that Baz and Simon have but I am hopeful that things are going to work out for them. This wasn't exactly what I was expecting from the sequel but I loved it every step of the way. I really hope we get to see a conclusion to the series soon!
Finally on to the second part of The Priory! It's taken me so long to get through to this point, which is no fault of the book or the writing I just haven't had time to read and I also want to give as much attention as I can to it. There are so many characters and so much happening that it is a lot to keep track of but I want to take time with it and enjoy every minute.
This book is so uniquely charming. It is very reminiscent of the classic Penny Dreadful tales, capturing the same quality of story and the same strange and wonderful characters. I loved the audiobooks, the narrator was perfect. It includes characters from Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Sherlock Holmes.
I am way too excited! This was a birthday gift from one of my roommates and I can't thank her enough.

These semester promises to be crazy busy for me. I unfortunately won't have much time for reading. I got this beauty for Christmas and I've so looked forward to reading it. I love Zusak, The Book Thief and I Am the Messenger are two of my absolute favorite books of all time. It might take me some time to get through but it promises to be great

And here I go again unable to decide what to read so I start two of the longest books in my collection at the same time. I'm really enjoying this though, the narration is so interesting how it directly addresses the reader and almost makes them a character. I'm loving it so far.
I'm about to embark on this somewhat intimidating book. I've read a lot of good reviews about and a lot that say it's a slow start to an amazing series. I hope I holds my attention, the characters seem intriguing.
I have this urge to start so many books right now. It was either this or The Crimson Petal and the White. #tbr #fantasy
I really wanted to like this book a lot more than I actually do. I love the art and I love the premise but it's been very hard for me to get through.
Finished my reading goal just in time! I wish I could have read more but this year has been so crazy busy I didn't have time for more reading. I read a lot of really great books though and discovered some really great new authors. I'll aim for 55 for the new year! I try to up it a little every year.
Settling down with my family to watch Polar Express and drink hot chocolate!! Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and Happy Holidays to those who don't!! 🎄🎄🎄
And may everyone receive the book of their dreams tomorrow.
Only on chapter three but I'm loving it already. I think Laini Taylor may be one of my new favorite authors. I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone. She just had such a unique way of describing things and her narrators and world building are spot on.
I love everything V.E. Schwab writes. She's just incredible. Vicious reminds me of X-Men in a way and the characters are just spot on. Eli and Victor's relationship has everything I want out of a hero/villian relationship and it left me torn about who I should be routing for in the beginning. I love seeing the contrast of their college lives to their adult lives.

Me: It's too close to Christmas to be ordering books.
Also me: But what is the likelihood that some actually knows I want this one.
Found this author while scrolling through Instagram and couldn't resist the blurb. Also I had a Thriftbooks reward so it was only a dollar.

I loved this book way more than I expected. The world building surrounding this story is so unique and beautiful. I especially loved how we discovered it alongside the main character. With a lot of YA novels I can usually guess what's going to happen but there were so many twists and beautiful turns.

Hi everyone! This isn't exactly a book post but I was hoping that some of you would visit my new website. It has short stories, microfiction, and critical/analytic pieces on it. I will start posting stuff for my novels soon too.

Thank you all! I would also appreciate any feedback you all can give me on my stories.
"... And he looked at her. Just looked. His gaze was heat across her cheeks, her lips. It was touch. His eyes were hypnotic, his brows black and velvet. He was copper and shadow, honey and menace, the severity of knife-blade cheekbones and a widow's peak like the point of a dagger."
I'm listening to this book on audio and I think that may be a contributing factor for not finishing it. It's a good book but there is so much happening and so many different perspectives going on it's hard to keep track of through the audio. Usually I love audiobooks. I think I'll have to try this one again another time with the physical book.
This year is the 200th birthday for the 1818 publication of Frankenstein. My university had events today in commemoration of it and I got to write a short story based off the themes of the book to read for a crowd. There was a lecture on the history of the book's publication, a lecture on alchemy, theater did a dramatic reading of chapter 7, then a showing of Bride of Frankenstein. #frankenreads #studentlife #creativewriting #favoritebook
Onto my second cup of coffee of the day as I start my NaNo prep finally! #nanowrimo #nanoprep #writing
Wow guys thank you! #milestone #2k
Also while we're here, I was wondering if there were any littens doing #NaNoWriMo this year. If you are would you want to be writing buddies? I love the support and the friendly competition for NaNo and I thought it would be great if we could all help and support each other
So I've decided to start this beauty. I've heard a little about it through reviews, particularly about how wonderfully descriptive it is. I'm only on chapter two and I'm already seeing just how well written the descriptions are. I've never been to Prague before but I feel like I'm right there.
It's been a long time since a book really brought tears to my eyes. Miller did an incredible job of portraying Achilles and Patroclus and retelling their story. The way she paints their relationship is just stunningly beautiful. There is so much packed into this story and I'm absolutely in love with the way Miller writes. I received Circe in a #BookoftheMonth Box last month and I'm so excited to start it! #newfavorite #greekmyths
@TheReadingMermaid So two out of four of these aren't really "my pets" (the corgi puppy belongs to my neighbor and the cat belongs to my roommate) but I love all of them so much. They make my life so much happier. #petsoflitsy
I'm so excited!!!! I pre-ordered The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy and submitted my receipt to EpicReads to get the epilogue novella for The Gentleman's Guide and it just arrived in my inbox!!! I can't wait to sit down on this perfect fall day and read it. #preorder #epilogue #lgbt
Just picked this up from the mailroom!!!! It's been so long since I've pre-ordered a book and I couldn't be more excited right now. I loved the first book and I absolutely adore Felicity. I'm looking forward to hearing the story from her perspective and learning more about her. #preorder #newrelease
I love this book series! The characters that Salavic creates are so vivid and I love them all so much (even Riko). I'm so happy that these are becoming audiobooks. I feel like that fit the format well because they tend to be fast paced. I highly recommend for anyone that likes mafia stories. #favorite #mafia #audiobook
Just got my Book of the Month box today! I'm too excited. I love historical fiction and these two are supposed to be amazing. I'm making my way through The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller now and I absolutely adore the way it's written so I have high hopes. #bookofthemonth #bookhaul #tbr
I love the movie adaptation of this story but I'd never read the book. I gotta say I loved it. Just the right amount of creepy for me.
So I'm taking a little hiatus from reading this one. It's not that it's hard to get through or anything, it's just that there's a lot happening in it that's making me stressed and I know the next book doesn't come out until next year. I don't think I can handle the suspense. Also I may have "accidentally" flipped to the last chapter and read some ??? #bookhiatus #spoileditformyself
Just learned that this series is now on audio! Well at least the first one is for the moment. I read these last year and absolutely love them. I can't wait to listen to them!!!
Okay, gotta say I actually really enjoyed this collection of sonnets. There is so much incorporated in each sonnet and so much to work out and work through. It's incredible. The way the sonnets all connect to each other and create an image of past and present and even future. He shows how the cycles of past, present, and future have repeatedly themselves and will continue to repeat themselves if people can't or won't change the way they think.
I'm starting this one for my sonnet class. My professor was really excited for it so hopefully I can get into it. I'm not a huge fan of poetry, which I think is the fault of the American education system and the way it drills poetry from a young age and not in an enjoyable way.
I am so behind on my reading!!! Between band camp and classes starting back just the beginning of senior year, and work I've had no time to read anything. I'm hoping week to will settle down and let me focus but for now I took this quiz and I'm unsurprised by the results. #school #quiz #wishiwasreading #sobehind
