The Confession
The Confession: The most addictive debut thriller of 2018! | Jo Spain
WHAT IF THE CONFESSION WAS JUST THE BEGINNING...? FIND OUT WHO DID IT ON THE VERY FIRST PAGE. ON THE LAST PAGE, FIND OUT WHY. 'I can't praise The Confession enough. Brilliant writing, great story . . . a really cracking read' BA Paris, author of Behind Closed Doors and The Breakdown 'Enthralling - Spain dissects her characters' secrets with razor-sharp precision' JP Delaney, author of The Girl Before 'Has you addicted from the very first page. I found it impossible to put down' Michelle Frances, author of The Girlfriend 'Here is my confession: I've never read Jo Spain before but now I'll be buying all of her books. The Confession is brutal and brilliant' Fiona Cummins, author of Rattle Late one night a man walks into the luxurious home of disgraced banker Harry McNamara and his wife Julie. The man launches an unspeakably brutal attack on Harry as a horror-struck Julie watches, frozen by fear. Just an hour later the attacker, JP Carney, has handed himself in to the police. He confesses to beating Harry to death, but JP claims that the assault was not premeditated and that he didn't know the identity of his victim. With a man as notorious as Harry McNamara, the detectives cannot help wondering, was this really a random act of violence or is it linked to one of Harry's many sins: corruption, greed, betrayal? This gripping psychological thriller will have you questioning, who - of Harry, Julie and JP - is really the guilty one? And is Carney's surrender driven by a guilty conscience or is his confession a calculated move in a deadly game? THE MOST GRIPPING PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER OF 2018: PERFECT FOR FANS OF HE SAID, SHE SAID AND THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR.

I really enjoyed this book! It was different than most mystery books because you know all along who the suspect is. As you read you get the story of why the crime was committed. It really kept me guessing and wanting more. I would be interested in reading more from this author! 🌟🌟🌟🌟!

About to start this! Loved the treats and feel bad that I didn‘t send any to my swap, but I will put some in with this book when I pass it on! That first line though! #thrillers #suspence #LMPBC #round009 #groupB @shellleigh33 @Kappadeemom @Velvetsun

Okay girls, so after much debate I am going with this book for my #LMPBC read. I am going to go with the color green for my mark-up color this round if that is okay with everyone. So excited to start this sometime this week.

BarkingMadRead Love it! 4y

Lots of twists and turns. You know who right away, but the why is slowly revealed in layers. Even though they don‘t seem to know each other, something drives JP into Harry and Julie‘s home to commit one horrific act of violence, which may not be his first one.

My family are basically on the Home Library Service, because they‘re always asking me to pick out books for them & then getting me to give them to them when I see them
I‘m pretty sure this happens to EVERY person who works in a library

Gissy Nice book pile! 📚😍 7y

Jo Spain‘s stand-alone thriller has a confident, twisting plot and makes good use of split narration to take in the heady rise and hedonistic depths of Ireland‘s Celtic Tiger economy and the impact of money, secrets and power on a couple‘s relationship that - despite some soapy moments - kept me turning the pages until the end.

Unlike a traditional crime thriller, you know who the killer is and how it was done, the question that remains is why. An excellently written and deftly plotted book which lulls you into thinking you know exactly where it‘s going, then it turns out you don‘t. Rating: 4/5.

Thanks to Netgalley and publishers, Quercus, for opportunity to review an ARC.
