A.D.: After Death
A.D.: After Death | Scott Snyder
17 posts | 13 read | 17 to read
Two of comics' most acclaimed creators, SCOTT SNYDER (WYTCHES, Batman, American Vampire) and JEFF LEMIRE (DESCENDER, PLUTONA, Moon Knight, Sweet Tooth) unite to create an epic like no other, set in a future where a genetic cure for death has been found. Years after the discovery, one man starts to question everything, leading him on a mind-bending journey that will bring him face-to-face with his past and his own mortality. A unique combination of comics, prose, and illustration, A.D.: AFTER DEATH is an oversized hardcover graphic novel written by SNYDER and fully painted by LEMIRE.

“Nothing horrific happened, no massive attacks, no total breakdown: it's the little things... the ways in which people seem to be pulling away from each other, into stories of their own making. You can almost feel it, the low scrape of seats backing away from the table...the paranoia and protectionism of [humanity in] old age.“ - Scott Synder

This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper
- T.S. Elliott

Part graphic novel, part illustrated novel, this meditation on death and immortality ended up being much more than I expected.

Strange attempt at literary fiction with surreal artwork. Good, but not totally for me.

#graphicnovelsnews is here. Today‘s #graphicnovel is collaboration of a very famous graphic writer Snyder and painted in full color by Lemire. It‘s a unique combination of comics, prose, and illustration. Years after the discovery, one man starts to question everything, leading him on a mind-bending journey that will bring him face-to-face with his past and his own mortality.
Our next discussion on Maus on 8/8. Google the book to read it online

It's nearly 2am here in the UK and I'm signing off. I've managed just over 10hrs reading time this #readathon which is my best yet. Two books completed and two half read. Hopefully re-join for a couple of hours when I wake up.

Starting to feel pretty sleepy now (nearly 11pm in the UK) so going to curl up in bed with my first graphic novel of the day #readathon

I really enjoyed this! It really makes you think about who you are and who you could become. It's told through typical graphic novel pages as well as pages with paragraphs of story like in the photo. This is a definite pick for me!

"I used to take the same five chords. Leaps of fourths and fifths, stacked thirds... All the pretty harmonies, designed to bring people back to the special times in their lives. Like tiny memory palaces. Little structures built around these experiences we've all had, even if specifics might differ. Love lost, love won, love unreturned, general joy, general despair."

DivaDiane The description of the book (in its profile) reminds me of a book by Nancy Kress, where they‘ve found a way to eliminate sleeping. 7y
TricksyTails I‘m so excited to read this!! 7y

#2017wrapup
The Happy Accidents award goes to the book/author I wasn‘t expecting to fall for. This year, it‘s Jeff Lemire. I really got into comics and graphic novels this year. I met Lemire through A.D. After Death. And I‘m signed on for Royal City. And the best part is there is SO MUCH he‘s done I can sift through. There is something very late-Gen X about his stuff that speaks to me without manipulating me via nostalgia. I just dig him.

GrilledCheeseSamurai Trillium, Descender, and Sweet Tooth are very much worth looking into as well! 7y

After #nobookbookckub, we stopped in at King's Books & Destiny City Comics. After doing my civic duty & helping sell some books 😉, I treated myself to this. Looks good, & is short - only 3 books. It's a good way for me to explore more of the graphic novel universe.

Man, this is like chocolate and peanut butter: Snyder & Lemire? Of course I snatched this off the rack. Hardly slowed down enough to pay for it, even.

vivastory This looks awesome. Will be buying right away. 8y
Zelma Yes please! 8y
Lauren.Archer It was so good 8y
Scott_BookInvasion Looks great! I'm just now on book one of Wytches and this looks like it's officially started my journey down the graphic novel rabbit hole, 8y
