Book #26 of 2021 complete! And Elizabeth Fremantle is quickly becoming a new favorite author for me! I love her character development. Francis was absolutely fascinating! I‘m not easy to surprise, but the twists and turns in this story were delightfully unexpected!

What are you up to this Saturday?

I dropped my daughter off at work this morning and then went with my husband to The Corner Bookstore, where we got married last year. ♥️ I was looking for a book I saw a picture of on their Facebook page. I couldn‘t find it.

I still left with books. 🤷‍♀️

Clwojick Girls in the Garden was good! 5y
abookishbutterfly @Clwojick I read The Family Upstairs recently, which was my first Lisa Jewel book, and I enjoyed it so much! I‘m looking forward to reading some of her older books now! 5y

Pickpick

A Jacobean murder mystery, centring around the schemes and machinations of the notorious Howard Family. Frances Howard and her husband Robert Carr are locked in the Tower of London, kept apart, what will they say or do to escape the hangman‘s noose.

Living it up on a Friday night. Chilled wine, mellow music, snoring dog, comfy chair and a good book. ♥️

“1615. Celebrated couple Robert and Frances Carr are imprisoned on suspicion of murder. She has been rescued from an abusive marriage by Robert, and is determined to make a new life for herself. Whatever the price. He has risen from nothing to become one of the country‘s most powerful men. But to get to the top, you cannot help making enemies. Now a man is dead.” Review: https://emmasbookery.co.uk/2018/06/the-poison-bed-by-e-c-fremantle-blog-tour/

#Pigeonhole

Based on the real muder case of Thomas Overbury, this is populated by a whole cast of historical characters. The plot hinges on whether he was killed by Frances Owen or Robert Carr and is narrated by alternatively by them. A question everything type of book. Frances is a great character. It's a very good murder mystery but to me it doesn't entirely capture the atmosphere of the age.

Pickpick

A gripping tale of murder, witchcraft, secrets, betrayal and deception. It‘s beautifully written, well paced and full of intrigue. There are some amazing and colourful characters, one or two of whom are not as they seem and are easy to hate! Be warned! Plenty of twists and turns and it had me on the edge of my seat with suspense. It‘s an absolute page turner. An exciting and and captivating story which brings history alive.

Pigeonhole app.
