'Every now and then I come across a book I wish Id written. The Possible World is one of those... A gorgeously wrought exploration of who gets to tell the story of our lives, and who gets to inhabit that story with us' Jodi Picoult Ben is the sole survivor of a crime that claims his mother and countless others. He is just six years old, and already he must find a new place for himself in the world. Lucy, the doctor who tends to Ben, is grappling with a personal upheaval of her own. She feels a profound connection to the little boy who has lived through the unthinkable. Will recovering his memory heal him, or damage him further? Clare has long believed that the lifetime of secrets shes been keeping dont matter to anyone anymore, until an unexpected encounter prompts her to tell her story. As they each struggle to confront the events past and present that have defined their lives, something stronger than fate is working to bring them together...

This book follows 3 characters: a boy who survives a murder scene, an ER doctor going through a marital separation, and an elderly woman at a nursing home.

While each story itself was entertaining, the way in which they intersected was really dissatisfying. The backstory of this connection was dropped in very subtly and casually and just felt like the author didn't know how else to intertwine the storylines. ⭐⭐⭐ Because I liked the writing.

I remember being so excited for this book when it came out in 2018.... Fast forward THREE years and it has just been sitting on my TBR shelf. Excited to finally dive into this one (especially because the author already has another book ... Also on my TBR shelf 🤦‍♀️)

Pretty books I‘ve recently added to my Kindle TBR. I do judge a book by its cover! #TBR #somanybookssolittletime

Read this based on a friend‘s recommendation. I‘m so glad I did! Unlike anything I‘ve read in quite awhile.

This book is not what I expected at all, and I'm so glad for it. Tender and poignant.

JSW I was so surprised by the ghost/supernatural element and it really made the book, in my opinion. 5y

Oh my heart......the best book I have read for ages. The author tells the tale through 3 people, Claire, Lucy and Ben/Leo. It‘s a really engrossing read and the three lives are very different, with a bit of war, murder, hardship, a failed marriage and loss. It all comes together at the very end and while it is just so sad and made me weep, it‘s also a lovely ending. I can thoroughly recommend it.

minkyb That‘s quite a mouthful of a name for the author! 6y

5 ☆ LOVED it!!
A deeply moving and unbelievable story that I couldn‘t help but get caught up in. I found it wonderful how the characters spanning through a century all connected at the end, even though they didn‘t initially know each other at the beginning. And all were very likable! It‘s fascinating the author is an emergency-medicine Doctor herself as is one of her characters, Lucy.
This is a keeper! ❤️

DivineDiana You sold me! 👍🏻 6y

One of my usual “ooh, I like that cover, I‘ll have a read of that!” without even reading the back of the book! It always surprises me that this approach works 😂 It‘s a gorgeous book, a really touching story, very sad in places. Worth a read!

I have read some absolutely stonking books so far this month, and this one is right up there with them. It really is the most beautiful story of past lives, connections to each other and enduring love. The development of the characters and their story arcs is so wonderfully done and handled with such care and attention to detail, that you take each one into your own heart. That makes the ending both a blessing and a curse 😭😭😭
A mega 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This had the easy readability & total engagement of a great beach read but with slightly more substance. The 3 POV strands are all equally compelling. Loved the 'E.R.' vibes of Lucy's story, Clare's enthralling backstory and Ben/Leo's dual timeline. The past life aspect is done with subtlety, feeling natural rather than over egged. The stories converge convincingly & the ending, while obvious, is satisfying. Well written and very enjoyable.

readingjedi The Lucy in The Possible World put me in mind of my favourite Lucy from ER. Still well up when I think about her .... *sob* 6y

Started this one today after my last read dragged for what seemed like a short ice age. Life has gone bananas recently and I've had tragically little time for reading. A book is now taking me 7 to 10 days to read rather than my usual 4 to 7. 😱🤯🤪

Thanks to #netgalley for this book.
