pickI found the first book in the Vicky Bliss series by Elizabeth Peters to be just as much fun as the Peabody series. Vicky is delightful, the mystery was a fun gothic tale, and the audiobook is narrated by the brilliant Barbara Rosenblat. First book finished for #AwesomeApril.

pickThis virus has wiped out my concentration so it feels like it took forever to read this. I finally got through it though and it's still the same zany romp I remember from years ago. I don't think I could handle anything heavy right now so this was perfect.
Browsing my shelves reminded me if this series. I rarely reread these days but I'm feeling the pull of that recently so I'm starting this now. I can't wait to reacquaint myself with Vicky Bliss. 😁
Having very much enjoyed Amelia Peabody, I thought I would give Vicky Bliss a try. I‘m an hour into the audiobook, and I‘m still not draw into the story. I intend to finish this one, but I don‘t know if this series is my cup of tea.

pickI know most people prefer Amelia Peabody to Vicky Bliss so I guess I‘m in the minority. I don‘t mind Amelia, but I read Vicky first so I have quite the soft spot for her despite the reluctant heroine persona. This is probably my 6th reread of the series and the first book is still amusing and fun. Obviously, it‘s a bit dated but I read it for what it is, not in a modern context. Fun, quick read.
so-soI don't like Vicky Bliss as much as Amelia Peabody, but I'll probably give the series another shot. I have a feeling subsequent books might get better.
panNope. Not Amelia Peabody. None of the charm or wit. Pan for me.

The Boy aka Him Indoors has borrowed my kindle and asked what he should read. I suggested this and he's now more than 1/3 of the way through (in just a few hours which is amazing for him) and wandering around clutching the kindle and reading whilst doing other stuff. What greater testimonial for a book is there?!
so-soWell, Vicky Bliss is no Amelia Peabody but it was Okay enough that I'll listen to the second in the series. That's more due to Barbara Rosenblat narration than the plot. There's potential. We'll see.
