This book has been on my shelves for ages but I am glad I finally read it, it is a well told story.

In a Maltese immigrant neighborhood in Wales, Dolores grows up with her five sisters. It‘s a hard life with a gambling, abusing father and a mother who is loving but not able to take good care of all six.
Years later the sisters reunite for a funeral and Dolores discovers that her truth is not the only one.

#WeeklyForecast 19/23

I am trying to read an #InternationalBooker shortlisted book a week and am now in the middle of Time Shelter. Afterwards I‘ll read some oldies off my TBR before I dive into my new books for #CampToB23.
The tagged one was shortlisted for the #BookerPrize years ago, a #Persephone just because and The Mandibles because I love Shriver!

LeeRHarry Will be interested to hear your thoughts on the tagged book - it has been on my radar for a while now as it‘s set in Cardiff and my family is from South Wales. 😊 12mo
Cinfhen I‘ve been curious about the tagged book too @LeeRHarry (Time Shelter) and as much as I LOVE Shriver I could not get into (edited) 12mo
TrishB Have a good week 👍🏻 12mo

JenniferP I've also had The Hiding Place on my shelf for a long time! Curious to see how you like it. 12mo
BarbaraBB @LeeRHarry @JenniferP I‘ll make sure to tag you in my review of 12mo
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen I am reading The Mandibles on audio and print and I feel the same so far! (edited) 12mo
BarbaraBB @TrishB Thanks! You too, with The Ferryman! 12mo
Suet624 Shriver certainly has some misses amidst her fascinating ones. Some I struggle with but remember for years. I don‘t think I‘ve read the one you‘re reading though. 12mo
LeahBergen I want to read that Persephone, too. 👍 12mo
BarbaraBB @Suet624 It‘s all about money and an dystopian final crisis. If that doesn‘t ring a bell you probably haven‘t! 12mo
BarbaraBB @LeahBergen You haven‘t yet? That doesn‘t happen often! 12mo
LeahBergen 😂😂 Well, at this point I think my number of owned Persephones is higher than my number read! 12mo
Suet624 @BarbaraBB oh dear. I definitely shouldn‘t read that right now. 🤪 12mo
BarbaraBB @Suet624 I wouldn‘t 🩵 12mo
BarbaraBB @LeahBergen that says a lot about your collection 🥰🥰 12mo

Em is hiding from Poe. If he finds her, a short lived "sword fight" will ensue. He never remembers where she hides. ??

DebinHawaii Hah! Cute! 😻❤️ 7y

I can be a bit hit and miss with family dramas but this, set in Cardiff in the 1960's, has just been a HUGE hit with me. We follow a group of sisters and watch as family secrets unfold and last for decades after. Beautifully written if traumatic. Highly recommended.

LuvliLadi27 I'll have to read this. Sounds similar to what my mom and her 6 sisters went through a few yrs ago after my gran passed. 😬 ☺️ 8y

The only joy of waking up waaaaaaay before your alarm is extra time for tea and books. Started The Hiding Place this morning as off to Cardiff, where it's set, this weekend. Like to read about where I'm off to even if only few hours away.

MyBookLife I haven't heard of it. What is it about? Is it good? 8y
