Another year of #UKroadtrip and I have read 38 out of 113 prompts! Enjoying this challenge a lot!
Fluffy novel about a young woman making a road trip across England to scatter the ashes of her beloved father. She is grieving, of course, and has been making a mess of her life. Throughout the journey she meets (how convenient!) people from her past who make her look again at her life.
It all felt a bit to smooth for me, even though I loved the #UKroadtrip!

I kept putting away this book because I didn‘t want to read on, didn‘t want it to end. It is drowned in sadness. The desolate setting of a small Scottish island. A father killing his family, a surviving son.
Years later Tommy returns to the place that has haunted him ever since.
And yet. The “terrible beauty” of the island, the awkward kindness of his father‘s brother. Two men of few words, looking for answers. ⬇️

A fun read! Romance, adventure, mystery, and lots of 18th Century slang! What‘s not to love?
Great pick, @mabell ! On its way to you tomorrow, @TheAromaofBooks .😃

The setting is a small religious community in #Gloucestershire where people find refuge who try to escape the real world. The community values virtue and moral codes but almost everyone disobeys the unwritten rules which set in motion various events, all related to the old bell that has been missing from the bell tower for ages. An enjoyable read but by far not as good as The Black Prince and The Sea, the Sea.

I don‘t think I ever rated a #Persephone a so-so before, but this one just brought a bit too little.
It‘s a sweet enough story (a spinster falls overboard a cruise ship, strands on a desert island, is saved four years later and returns to England in the midst of WWII) but it just fell a bit flat.

This book has been on my shelves for ages but I am glad I finally read it, it is a well told story.
In a Maltese immigrant neighborhood in Wales, Dolores grows up with her five sisters. It‘s a hard life with a gambling, abusing father and a mother who is loving but not able to take good care of all six.
Years later the sisters reunite for a funeral and Dolores discovers that her truth is not the only one.

For those of you doing my #ukroadtrip challenge, I'm aware that some of the counties I've listed may not exist anymore. My suggestion is you search for a book in a town/city that was in that county but put it in the newer category if I have it listed. This may mean certain counties can't be completed, but as there's no time limit on this challenge it doesn't really matter!
