Her Last Word
Her Last Word | Mary Burton
An unsolved crime pits a desperate woman against a relentless killer in New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton's heart-stopping novel of psychological suspense... Fourteen years ago, Kaitlin Roe was the lone witness to the abduction of her cousin Gina. She still remembers that lonely Virginia road. She can still see the masked stranger and hear Gina's screams. And she still suffers the guilt of running away in fear and resents being interrogated as a suspect in the immediate aftermath. Now Kaitlin has only one way to assuage the pain and nightmares--by interviewing everyone associated with the unsolved crime for a podcast that could finally bring closure to a case gone cold. But when a woman Kaitlin questions is later found stabbed to death, she fears that she's drawn a killer out of hiding. It's Detective John Adler's fear that the murders have only just begun. Now his job is to keep Kaitlin safe. As a bond between Kaitlin and Adler builds, the past closes in just as fast--and it's darker than Kaitlin remembers. Soon, her wish will come true. She's going to find out exactly what happened to Gina. Someone has been dying to tell her.

The premise was intriguing enough...a woman's podcast reopens the case of her cousin's disappearance, only to incite a new string of murders related to the victim. Each chapter definitely held my attention, but I completely guessed who the killer was about halfway through the book. There was also a side story of romance that didn't seem to fit the characters or plot at all. When I got to the end, I just felt frustrated. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Netgalley

Kaitlin Roe witnessed her cousin's abduction 14 years ago, but her survivor's guilt still haunts her. She mitigates her guilt by interviewing anyone even remotely connected to the unsolved crime for a podcast which she hopes will finally close this cold case. But when a woman she interviews is murdered, Kaitlin worries she's tempted a retired killer — and that she might be next on his list...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

I‘m glad I discovered Mary Burton books. I was hooked from beginning to end. I wish the ending didn‘t feel rushed. I wasn‘t left hanging or anything....the ending was complete but I just wish it went into more detail on the original case.

Meh I really didn‘t like this book. I only finished it because I wanted to confirm I was right about who was killing and who Killed Gina 15 years ago.

This book wasn‘t for me, I felt I was being told what was going on instead of actually being a part of it. And that romance was out of left field and I felt wasn‘t necessary for the story.

⭐️⭐️

ravenlee I had a DNF with a Mary Burton a few months back, for similar reasons. Dialogue felt forced, action didn't really make sense...bummer. 7y

This is a favorite author and she doesn‘t disappoint. If you like a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat then this is the book for you. She develops the characters and the romance develops over time.

The plot is interesting but I really dislike the ending. This is not her best work. #maryburton #romanticsuspense

Compelling storytelling with a tough, vulnerable heroine, and sexy hero at the story‘s centre. The novel is well crafted, suspenseful mystery with creditable suspects, twist and turns that keep you reading and a little romance to keep it real.

Her Last Word is a great suspenseful thriller. A woman starts investigating a cold case involving the night her cousin went missing. Murders begin to happen and they all seem to be connected to her cousin's disappearance. This is the first book I've read of Burton's and I look forward to more of her work. #netgalley #arc
