The Sandman: The Dream Hunters
The Sandman: The Dream Hunters | Neil Gaiman
14 posts | 17 read | 15 to read
"THE DREAM HUNTERS is a lovingly-crafted piece of work. Russell produces ... as faithful an adaptation as one could ever hope for."?IGN THE SANDMAN: THE DREAM HUNTERS is a graphic novel adaptation of Gaiman's novella of the same name, illustrated by Yoshitako Amano. The world was different in old Japan. In those days, creatures of myth and legend walked upon the earth, swam in the sea, flew through the air. Some were wild and some, at great cost, could be tamed. So it was that a wily fox made a wager to dislodge a humble young monk from his home?and lost her heart in the betting. So it was also that a master of the demons of this world set his own eyes on the monk, seeking to seize the pious man's inner strength for his own. And so it was, the King of All Night's Dreaming would find himself intervening on behalf of a love that was never meant to be.... Adapted by P. Craig Russell from the award-winning story by NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Neil Gaiman, THE SANDMAN: THE DREAM HUNTERS is a richly evocative return to the world of The Dreaming, seen through entirely new eyes. Collects the entire 4-issue series as well as a sketch section by P. Craig Russell. Also included is a cover gallery that includes work by P. Craig Russell, Yuko Shimizu, Mike Mignola, Paul Pope and Joe Kubert.

29/150 I'm not sure how I missed this when it was first released, but I'm glad I've read it now. Neil Gaiman and P. Craig Russell together make magic in this beautiful Japanese story of a fox who falls in love with a Monk, and what she will do to save his life. The story is beautiful but heart wrenching, destined for tragedy. The artwork by Russell is amazing, I could see panels of this framed on people's wall as art. 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

It's after-shower-before-bed reading time. One of my favourite times of the day (although my most favourite time may be when they're asleep and all is finally quiet 😂)

Ruri_kaichou Same! I love when we do pre-reading before our bedtime story. But having the kids asleep is pretty great 7y

Short but fun. Nice illustrations and Japanese folklore with Gaiman's twist.

Look at what I found at the public library today. A beautifully illustrated novella by Mr. Gaiman. I'm excited to read another work by this author.

More of a short story with amazing art than a graphic novel, I think this one of Gaiman's best works. I love the appropriately tragic ending and the art really is wonderful. Even if you aren't a graphic novel fan, I think this is worth the read, and it's really more illustrated than a visual story, so read this if you like Gaiman, read it if you like short stories, and read it if you like vengeance and love stories. 3.5/5 stars

TricksyTails I 💙 Gaiman! 7y

If I had to choose a favorite Sandman story, this would have to be the one.
But please don't make me choose!

Note: This is a good pick for anyone looking to read a stand-alone Sandman without needing to read any other issues for context or backstory.

rockpools That cover! 8y

When I was little, my dad brought home a stuffed animal Baku, which my mom hung above my bed to eat my dreams. I had no idea that they were real myths, and not just something my dad made up, until I read this book. My Obaasan never told me stories about Baku and they weren't in any of my children's books from Japan.

TricksyTails I love this book 💙 7y
