Mary, Called Magdalene
Mary, Called Magdalene | Margaret George
The New York Times-bestselling author of Elizabeth I brilliantly reimagines the story of the most mysterious woman in the Bible Was Mary Magdalene a prostitute, a female divinity figure, a church leader, or all of those? Biblical references to her are tantalizingly brief, but we do know that she was the first person to whom the risen Christ appearedand the one commissioned to tell others the good news, earning her the ancient honorific, "Apostle to the Apostles." Today, Mary continues to spark controversy, curiosity, and veneration. In a vivid re-creation of Mary Magdalene's life story, Margaret George convincingly captures this renowned woman's voice as she moves from girlhood to womanhood, becomes part of the circle of disciples, and comes to grips with the divine. Grounded in biblical scholarship and secular research, this fascinating historical novel is also, ultimately, "the diary of a soul."

BeansPage @audraelizabeth girl I can't speak for the rest of the books but I have seen up to season 4 in the series and I have read book 1 in the series and I've got to tell you book 1 was really good! Totally lived up to the hype. 5y
audraelizabeth Im not sure why but ive never made it very far, i usually find other books to read. 5y
BeansPage @audraelizabeth uh oh 😳 maybe the story is not pulling you in? 5y
audraelizabeth Kind of, switching perspectives isnt always my thing but loved the fact that the show bounced around. 5y
BeansPage @audraelizabeth ah, yes I can see that. I have trouble with switching perspectives sometimes too. But I would definitely give it another try. It is worth it in the end. 😉 5y

stephothebesto @Lizpixie If you're looking for a starting place, I highly recommend Strange the Dreamer. I think it feels a lot shorter than it looks, because I didn't want it to end. 5y

This popped into my head when I saw today's #lyricalApril prompt #takemetochurch I don't know that it fits as intended, but I loved this historical fiction account of Mary Magdalene and today seems like a good day to share the recommendation. 😊

Cinfhen It's perfect for today! It's been on my TBR for a long time... need to bump it up the pile🌸 8y
