Five friends, each narrating a chapter, come to terms with their sexuality and relationships. The stories overlap, sometimes retelling the same event, sometimes filling in a gap left by another, sometimes creating more confusion than clarity. The story is also told through different techniques. One story is told using diaries and letters while another makes use of text messages. Although interesting, it doesn‘t differentiate the flat characters.

This book has received global praise and I wanted to like it, but I just didn‘t. The rambling, stream of consciousness style of writing just wasn‘t for me. Personally, I found it to be a mess. The novel was originally written in Greenlandic, so maybe it loses something in the translation; I don‘t know. Disappointing, because a novel from an emerging Greenlandic lesbian writer sounds intriguing. If stream of consciousness appeals to you, read it.

This was a strange book with an unusual format. At times it felt like a collection of short stories at others it felt like a novella. It tells the stories of a group of friends and lovers searching for identity and acceptance in Nuuk, a town in Greenland. I read this for #ReadingEurope #Greenland and while I‘m a bit unsure of it, I will definitely remember stick with me.

Discovered this after watching a booktuber (CloudCuckooCountry) reviewed it, focusing on how the written form created an interesting piece through multiple narrators. It was an interesting video, and I ended up really liking the book, bonus that it was short but also deeply queer, with multiple comings out in unique ways (in contrast to a majority of the books that focus on coming out).

Easy to read but deep & meaningful novella about four queer characters living in modern Nuuk. Niviaq Korneliussen presented her debut novel Crimson at the Sydney Writers Festival, and her poetic oratory of part of the novel in her native Greenlandic tongue was wonderful to witness. A group of friends and their intersecting lives in Nuuk. The first Greenlandic novel I have read! Everyone is queer and parts of the story are told through texts and diary entries.

I‘ll have more to say when I get it back from a loan to @lalatiburona but I loved this and crushed it in a day. Always trying to wrap my head around gender, sex, and orientation and this book helped. Also happy my first Greenlandic author LGBTQ+.

I‘m too old for this novel, whose prose and characters read like YA to me. Bailed halfway through.
