Verses for the Dead
Verses for the Dead | Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child
16 posts | 25 read | 6 to read
Preston & Child return with their #1 bestselling series, confronting FBI Special Agent Pendergast with the one challenge he never expected: a partner. After an overhaul of leadership at the FBI's New York field office, A. X. L. Pendergast is abruptly forced to accept an unthinkable condition of continued employment: the famously rogue agent must now work with a partner. Pendergast and his new teammate, junior agent Coldmoon, are assigned to Miami Beach, where a rash of killings by a bloodthirsty psychopath are distinguished by a confounding M.O.: cutting out the hearts of his victims and leaving them-along with cryptic handwritten letters-at local gravestones, unconnected save in one bizarre way: all belonged to women who committed suicide. But the seeming lack of connection between the old suicides and the new murders is soon the least of Pendergast's worries. Because as he digs deeper, he realizes the brutal new crimes may be just the tip of the iceberg: a conspiracy of death that reaches back decades.

This was my mystery book. I haven‘t read any of this series or anything from these authors. Thoughts?

DGRachel I‘ve read the first two in the series and enjoyed them. I own them all. One day I‘ll get to them. 4y

Book #18 in the Agent Pendergast series. A new angle in this one: Pendergast is assigned a partner. You can only imagine how well that goes over. He is also being asked about why so many of his perps end up dead. This book is much more on the mystery at hand than it is on Pendergast, but is still entertaining.

I don‘t know if it was the book or everything that‘s going on out there, but this Pendergast book seemed to be lacking something. Almost like Pendergast was only half there. Or maybe my lack of focus only saw half of him. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Book 40/100

Joanne1 The lack of focus is killing me too! 4y
carys14 @Joanne1 If I would stop checking the socials I might be able to focus better however with things changing so quickly it keeps drawing me in. I would would set aside my books but they are due in about a week and I don‘t want to go back on the waitlist because you know that line is probably twice as long now! 4y
Joanne1 @carys14 oh yeah those ebook/eaudiobook waitlisted are going to be massive!! 4y

🎧 another great Pendergast novel, I guess I‘m back on board. Smithback (or his brother) is back! I liked the partner, hope to see him again! Such an easy listen and great story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️2/3 ... a guilty pleasure.

I stopped into the library to pick up some holds. The gift shop was open (which it usually NEVER is when I go) and they had this new Pendergast book for $5.00! Score!

While this one was missing Vincent D‘Agosta, I‘m glad the authors got back to focusing on just one crime instead of doing family and ward-related troubles for Pendergast.

MaleficentBookDragon I love Vincent; too bad he's not in this one. I'm one behind on this series. 5y

Next up on #labsoundtrack - the most recent (I think it came out last December) addition to the Pendergast series. I love Agent Pendergast and all his eccentricities. I can‘t wait for this work day to be over, though, so I can open my #summersantagoespostal packages from @Chrissyreadit - time is moving so slowly! 😫

Chrissyreadit I‘m not home yet either!!! @WanderingBookaneer the pain is real! 5y

I little morning reading with my coffee before driving the kids to school. Only about halfway through and enjoying it. The Agent Pendergast books are one of my favourite series so after a few disappointing instalments it‘s nice to see Preston & Child get their groove back. 💕📚☕️

I‘m thrilled these two are back on track in these books. Was worried a couple of books back but this one and the last one were excellent. I also like the idea of them introducing new characters and keeping it fresh.

As always, looking forward to more Pendergast!

Love this series. Pendergast gets a partner this time. If you read the series you can just imagine how that goes over.
