Huge fan of grumpy old men having their defences absolutely demolished by a little kid to the point where they are examining past life choices, realising they were the problem and making amends.

And Richard Armitage narrates it! Stay winning and listen to this absolute Dickensian-esqe delight this holiday season.

CaramelLunacy Love Richard Armitage's voice for narration! 5mo

#WinterGames2020 @StayCurious #ReadNosedReindeer

A good story that is reminiscent of A Christmas Carole. It is a timeless story about a wealthy nobleman that no longer remembers the pleasure of young children at Christmas. A friend suggests they hire a few children to stay at the estate during the holidays. He becomes smitten with the children especially Moppet.4⭐

Audible Original presentation of 1920s classic. Trying to knock out some the short things from my TBR!

Finished this audiobook while #Audiosouping since everyone is feeling unwell.

This was a cute & warm Victorian story about family & forgiveness. Sir John is an aging, single, & somewhat Scroogelike man. Faced with an otherwise dull Christmas, Sir John & his 2 friends decide to hire children to liven up the holiday (cue rich white people statement). 😂 Although very predictable, it's a very sweet & festive story, a perfect listen for the season!

Jee_HookedOnBookz I love instant pot! 😁 5y
Dragon Just bought a smaller version at the Boxing Day sales, looking forward to trying it out. Do you use yours a lot ? 5y
KrystleTheBookSlayer @Dragon I use it on occasion, I mostly just use the slow cooker, saute, & pressure settings though, although there's a bunch of recipes that I want to try yet. There were a few months when our oven wasn't functioning properly, so we were using the Instant Pot a lot, which was wonderful! 5y
Kimzey Audiosouping! Perfect! 🍲 5y
KrystleTheBookSlayer @Kimzey absolutely, especially on a snowy Sunday like today! Some has been delivered to my sick friend & I have a whole bunch for myself too! 🍲 😋 5y

Stayed up late to finish this! So great!! Sir John Penlyon is an older man and unmarried, with no children at home. He plans to spend a quiet Christmas with his niece and friend. The three make a plan to hire children for the holiday because Christmas is always better with children afoot. Their sounds, their games, their merriment! Penlyon reminded me a tiny bit of Scrooge. In fact the entire story felt very Dickens-like. A warm story, very sweet.

“I‘m sorry you don‘t like us, Mr. Old Gentleman.”

Halfway thru listening to this👆🏻which was the holiday gift from Audible this year and it is quite good. Unfortunately I cannot find a book or ebook to use to follow along, like I nearly always do. So I‘m reading on my computer as I listen. There are DELIGHTFUL illustrations scattered throughout. The illustrations 100% remind me of those in my copy of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens! 😍😍😍

Starting this one on Audible today, it's fairly short & under 4 hours. I'm also still trying to figure out if it's worth going out into a blizzard to meet with a client or to give myself a snow day & reschedule. Ugh, I hate snow! ❄❄❄

I feel a bit like a Scrooge for this rating, but it was a bit too saccharine for me. A sweet story of familial love and reconciliation, it was well narrated by Richard Armitage. Of course, I would listen to him read the phone book, as long as he didn‘t attempt to do voices for young female children. *shudder*

This was a sweet and sentimental little Victorian Christmas tale originally published in 1894 and the fact that it was a free member gift from #Audible made it even better. I loved the reading by Richard Armitage & listened to the story while making soup this past Sunday & putting together presents & such & then I finished it up tonight. A nice way to end the day & get ready to head back to work tomorrow. 💚🎄❤️

This story is very Dickens like with all the sentimentality that should come with a Christmas Story. Enjoyable to listen to during the holidays.

Texreader And read by Armitage. He‘s an awesome narrator 5y

A delightful story about an old man who, found wanting of Christmas spirit, takes up a friend's suggestion to hire some children for the Christmas holidays to inject some life and laughter into his quiet, lonesome world. What follows is a truly wonderful, albeit a little predictable, tale of the true meaning of Christmas. This was a free download on Audible and you would be a fool to miss out. It was an absolute pleasure to listen to this.
