Crown of Embers
Crown of Embers | Rae Carson
The second book in Rae Carson's award-winning The Girl of Fire and Thorns fantasy trilogy, perfect for fans of Game of Thrones and Kristin Cashore. Tamora Pierce called the first book, The Girl of Fire and Thorns, "A unique and engrossing read!" A seventeen-year-old princess turned war queen faces sorcery, adventure, untold power, and romance as she fulfills her epic destiny. In The Girl of Fire and Thorns, Elisa won the war. She saved her kingdom. But no one prepared her for how hard it is to recover from a battle, or to rule a people who still don't trust her. She's still fighting against assassination attempts and more and her enemies lie both outside her court and within it. So Elisa will cross the ocean in search of the perilous, uncharted, and mythical source of the Godstone's power. With her go a one-eyed warrior, a loyal friend, an enemy defector, and the man she is falling in love with. A breathtaking, romantic, and dangerous second volume to Rae Carson's ambitious trilogy. Cinda Williams Chima proclaimed about the first book, The Girl of Fire and Thorns, "I LOVED this book!" and Veronica Roth agreed, saying, "Definitely recommended.""

I really enjoyed the first book, and the library had the second book- AND it is a perfect companion for me as i battle Bronchitis. The Queen reminds me a lot of CeNedra from the Belgariad- has anyone else read both series? I really am enjoying it more than i ever thought.

Slajaunie I have read the Crown of Embers series but not the other. What is the name of it? 1y
Chrissyreadit @Slajaunie it‘s a series of 5 books the first one is 1y
Chrissyreadit @Slajaunie but CeNedra doesn‘t begin until second book and grows throughout the series. 1y
Slajaunie Thanks! 1y

I did something so dumb. I put the first of this series and this book on hold at the same time because often I have to wait for the second one after I finish the first. Well, this one was available first, and I didn‘t even pay attention. Just read it. Had some questions, but though, “Alright, the author is just assuming we know/live in this world.” Still excellent, but wish I‘d read them in the right order.

This author puts her main character through a LOT in this book! It is a very fast-paced read, & I liked it more than the first book in the series. Looking forward to seeing how the story ends in book 3! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This series gets better and better. I read this in less than two days. I could not put it down! I would think to myself, “I‘ll stop after this chapter” but then I just had to know what was going to happen next. I am already halfway through the last book. I wish I could pace myself because I do not want it to end but I‘m a junkie!

This one suffers from the middle book slump, but the halfway point and especially the last 20-30% are stellar.
I basically couldn‘t stop reading. Now I‘m ready for book 3 and the conclusion.

Book 2 in The Girl of Fire & Thorns Trilogy was fantastic. Full of the romance I'd been craving in Book 1 and crazy suspense, I was on my toes the entire time. Squee!!

398.2 I tried to organize my books by color because I always think it looks beautiful. Let's just say I didn't get very far lol 8y
GypsyKat @398.2 Oh! I always admire other people's rainbow shelves! But I can not do it myself. I need to keep series together. The thought of splitting them up on different shelves gives me anxiety! Lol 8y

Oft times a second book in a trilogy can be weaker than it's predecessor, but that is not the case with The Crown of Embers. If anything I think it is even better than the first and propels the story in directions I didn't see coming. More adventure, more romance and more love for a truly lovely main character.

This was my favorite book in the trilogy by far. I'm not really down with the religious focus but the author does a great job with characters and the romance here is much more grown up and evolved compared to the first book.

So obsessed with this series right now. This is the second book which was a little slower just because it had to get a lot of things in place for the final book, but it was still super fun!

Darker, more claustrophobic, and therefore more of a slog than the Girl of Fire and Thorns. The last 25% was reasonably interesting... Enough that I'll probably read the third book in the trilogy... Eventually.
